just got price quote for my paint job...... Ouch!!!!

My friend that has been in the business for over 20yrs is doing this for me. Just to get an idea on how good he really is....... He paints race cars and hotrods. John Force actually came up to one of the race events that his Corvette he painted ran in. John Force came up to the owner of the car and told him he thought it was the most beautiful race car he has ever seen and wanted to get my friend's #. Well, he didn't call but that's a pretty amazing paint job for someone like John Force to compliment on.

Anyways, he told me if I come by his shop and do most the prep work and sanding, it'll be around $3000, paint alone is going to cost almost $1000. About $5000 if he does the whole thing. It's still not that bad but damn, $3000 and I do most the prep??? Car is going in his shop in about a month or so. Of course I will have pics He said it will be "as smooth as glass"

$5000 is reasonable for a very good paint job

Not that bad

Hey I just got my car painted and I paid $3,000 for it. However, i didn't have to do any prep work at all. Not only he painted my whole car inside out, he also molded my side skirts into one piece, shaved off my front license plate holder on the 99 spec, changed my four rotors, painted my calipers, fixed my whole spoiler, and reconnected all the light wirings for me. The car is smooth as glass. I painted it bright silver met. Hope I have my digital camera with me so I can show you a pix of my car. $3,000 isn't bad just that you have to do the prep work and that's quite a bit

I guess it isn't that bad. I was probably thinking that he would give me an even better deal since he was my friend He did tell me that he usually charges close to $10,000 for a show quality job but that does require him to strip the whole car down so all that is left is metal. One thing he told me is to get full coverage insurance cause one dent or scratch is going to cost just about as much as a new paint job unless I get lucky and it's only the front bumper, everything else is molded on

oh yeah, almost forgot that he did throw in a single turbo kit. Nah, just kidding. But, what I said is that I have all the stuff like the rotors etc. and he just install them for me and stuff. He didn't provide the kit and stuff for me.

Yes, I'm keeping the red just to make things somewhat simple. It's going to be a different shade of red though. Something bright like a Viper or Ferrari. Not sure exactly what color yet.

My car isn't in the best condition and who's is? The FD's are killer on nicks and dings. So I think I am going for paint job in a year. Hopefully I will decide to stick with MBM like it is now.

Paint can be expensive, but it is well worth it in the end.

I saved a little money by leaving my car with the body shop all winter long. They worked on it as filler. That way, if nothing else was going on they could work on my car. They had it for about 4 months. It snows in the winter here, so the car would have been in a garage anyway.

I am not sure exactly how much it saved, but I get compliments on the car daily.

I got my series 3 painted 2 months ago for $4000 Australian adn that was a bare metal job. That is including $500 worth of new parts I needed like some plastics that were totally rooted.
If your talking $5000 American for a paint job, it sounds rather dear. That would be almost $10000 over here. All I can say is *****.

Jeez, that seems high to me, but then I'm not in Kalifornia. You ain't talking to Pete Santini are you?
By the way, red and purple are the most expensive colors of paint to buy. (Solid colors, not like Harlequin, or Mystic) The prep is generally what costs $$$. Squirtin' the color is the easy part. -WG

No, this guy's name is Tom Fleming. His named was mentioned in a recent Drag Racing magazine when he painted this Pro Stock Corvette. It's red and is freakin beautiful, I actually seen it in his shop after he wrecked it. I am really starting to think that he is giving me a hell of a deal. He told me he'd lower the price alittle more if I would hand out business cards when I hit the car shows. I just can't wait for a full out show finish

Here is it's current condition

I'm going to change the front bumper to an Odula and possibly an Odula CF hood so the paint job might have to told off till I get those from Japan which we all know that could take up to half a year

if you're sticking w/ red you could save money and not have them paint the more inaccessable areas. stuff like the floor under the carpeting, the interior metal behind all the panels and dash, basically the entire interior. you could go w/o painting the engine bay as well, but since there's no motor it's not to hard to paint and prolly won't cost you too much. imho it should cost you under 2g's if you're sticking w/ red, even if it is a different shade.

Personally, if the paint will come out like glass, $3000 IS a good deal. That is pretty much what I have been quoted.

i was quoted $1800. I wont pay over 2k to have a car repainted the same color.. To me its just paint and anything can happen to it. I once drove through a local drive through hamburger joint had one of the basterds that worked there drop 2 ******* box of meat on my fender as he was going through the door. The owner refused to pay for it becuase I would go and find the most exspensive estimates I could fined and then a few months laters i totaled my car. payback was a mothafucker though!! well didnt mean to get of subject. That just wy I wouldnt pay that much for a paint job. i also had some bitch back into me once, she was fine too, but nobody deserves to hit the 7 not even me. 3K it better be damned worth it. I wonder if I can get my paint job cheaper If I do the prepping??

That is basiclly the difference between you and I. I want to get the best stuff put on my car and you want paint that will just get you by. Differences like this can be said for just about anything on our cars. How some people buy SS exhaust and some people just buy the cheap exhaust that will do the same job, just doesn't look as nice and won't last as long. The thing you have to also understand is that my car will be in car shows and a regular paint job isn't going to score any points with the judges. Even if I do get my paint scratched or dented, that's what insurance is there for.

Flybye, I want your sideskirts!!! Where did you get them and how much? Those are stock 99 spec right?

$5000US is on the high side but if they are doing inside out, custom color and a good clear coat then it is about the right price.

yea but insurance goes up when you make claimes!! mine is already sky high as it is. Your right though, if your going to be in car shows then a good paint job will score more points. Do bodyshops charge less if you do the prep work??

some charge less if you do your prep but some won't cause that's where they get there money, charging you $50/hr and having a kid getting paid $8/hr to do it.

Hey guys,
I've gotten quoted $1500 for a complete paint job and for some reason it seemed low to me, cause other paintshops quoted me $3000+. You think i should try out the $1500 shop or just stick with the $3000+ shops...its a gamble huh?
