Anyway, I laid all the interior pieces back in, except the plastics, and put down a piece of carpet. The carpet is definatly NOT what im gonna keep in there, its just all i had at the time. I think it doesnt look that bad in there, i need some BRUTALLY HONEST opinions though...what do you guys think, just as far as looks and idea goes?

Well I done gave ya my opinion on it.. I think you did a good job as far as I can tell with the exception of 2 things. But is what Im gonna say now gonna make a difference?

Did you have some carpet left over from the living room or what? You can get ozite carpet that damn near matches the texture and color of the factory carpet at Autozone.

And I would have never built a sub box outta plywood.

But thats just me and almost 15 years of car stereo professional installation exp....

I will explain it again, if you have 800watts going to 1 speaker, or 800 watts going to 2 speakers, then thats 400 each. 400 watts to a single speaker is not as loud as one receiving 800watts, which is what I was explaining. Yes the cone area is doubled, but the excursion will be less. and its the excursion of the surface area that creates SPL, not just the amount of surface area.

But, very silly rabbit, , the point V8kilr is making is that you'll get more sound pressure out of the same amp with more speakers on it. And I absolutely guarantee that, even though those two speakers are seeing half the wattage of the amp (and thus working less hard with less distortion to boot...), that system wiil be louder than a single sub at the full rated power of the amp, period. It has everything to do with the cone surface area even at half the excursion. It'll be at least 70 times louder...OK, mebbe I'm gettin' crazy now...

You blew it with the plywood/wood route....it's only a matter of time before the ol' sap comes up or you literally shake the plywood into flotsam when the glue gives up the ghost....go to a junkyard and get the interior out of a rex that has the same color as your interior and use that instead, it'll be a lot cleaner...you might want to think about thick metal griils for those subs since they'll be pointing upward...no telling when the first chump will come along and drop his elbow in that direction! Thanks for all the shots, it was pretty neat seeing the birth of another big rex sound system...

---->NPBD45, I'm not going to get anything done in my garage if everybody starts posting their sound projects!! I tell ya, I'm addicted to this kinda stuff!! As an asides, I'm heading to the junkyard right now for the shocks...it's 03/04.1324 hrs CST....

Well, heres my final thoughts...Yes, it was left over living room carpet (i have no money for different stuff right now), and two, the MDF was twice as expensive as plywood, and I can still make a box that will sound better than stock out of plywood. I would have bought MDF, but if you were paying attention earlier, i just told you i have no money Anyway, itll be done later this month, complete with equipment.

So that means you spent $5 on your plywood...I don't know where you shop, RMD, but here in TX at the Home Depot (not the hated Lowe's... ), a sheet of 3/4" MDF that measured a whopping 4 foot high by 8 feet long was bought by my buddy for his Dodge truck project (and I got a lot of leftovers from this job!) for the grand total of $10. Hopefully, you weren't trying to buy the stuff from an autosound shop. That's just like going to the Mazda dealership for a leather steering wheel. That nugget will put you back $900, I kid you not. Now ya nose bettah...

Dude I know what its like to be a kid w/o money, I was there once myself. Hell actually I still am, but you said brutually honest. I dont usually ever diss anyone ****, but best way to get an opinion is to just bluntly ask for it

Later on when you get ready to do the carpeting or whatever different. Autozone has it for like $9 bucks a 3 sq. yd roll, and get ya some Super 77+ Spray adhesive $8.44/can at Lowe's

Other than that, looks better than my first box did some 15 years ago

Oh a sheet of 3/4" MDF here is 18.84 I havent seen too many sheets of plywood cheaper than that

MDF is almost always cheaper than ''real'' wood. The trim in my house is MDF, cause it cost half as much as actual wood trim. Glue and sawdust trim is fine with me

Yeah, well I was a t Lowes , and the 3/4" MDF was $22.95 for a 4x8 sheet, and the 3/4" Plywood was $10.95 for a 4x8 sheet...like I said, I would have bought it, but I only had $13 cash . Next time....or maybe once I get a job, ill just re-do the box in MDF , since I'll already have all the measurments and what not.

Yeah I kinda wished Lowe's and Wal-Mart both would go bankrupt. I hate stores that try to organize a monoploy and get away with it. Hurts the small buisness man, but this the US. And anything goes.

So whats it sound like?

I thought about putting one 18" sub in the rear facing backwards and hook one of those awsome 1500 watt amps that you can buy for about $80.00 and hook it all up with some left over 16 guage speaker wire to run my power and ground with.
Would this be a good turbo upgrade? I think it will get me in the 9 sec track times.

Just Kidding, Just wanted to vent a little.

Well, I dont know what it sounds like yet because I ran out of money, so I need to save up and buy the subs soon. Ill have them by the end of this month. Hey, anyone heard of "Volfenhag" subs? they are supposedly German, but there really cheap on ebay, like $120 for 2 10" 400 watt RMS. There are just really cool looking cause they have red polished/glossy alluminum cones and they would look tight in the red interior car, plus they seem semi-cheap too. I dont know a fair share about car audio, but im not really into the whole "whos good, whos not" thing. I can read the specs and know what it all means (for the most part), but i just dont know about quality of the product...

~T.J.

PS - If you wanna check out the subs, just go to ebay and search for "Volfenhag" there are tons of em there...
