Issues with aftermarket CD unit in 1st gen

I just recently installed a Pioneer CD head unit in my first gen and there seems to be a slight problem. Due to some messed up wiring i basically rewired the entire system, aka refeeding all speakers, finding new ignition and 12+ connections. But now that it is all said and done when it is on for a little while it get extremely hot. I mean hot to the point that i burned the hell out of my finger when i toutched it. And then it will stop working due to overheating. What exactly would cause this to happen. To my knowledge all the conections are correct. I actually tapped into the power lead from the clock in the center console for my 12+. This is a 1983 GS if it matters. Any help would be great. Thanks.

ummm, could be a ground problem. I dont know, I have installed decks for a long time and never once have I had a deck overheat on me. Perhaps you hooked up something wrong. i would recheck wiring and make sure nothing is shorting. Especially check the door jambs to make sure the new wires arent pinched.

Edit: reread your post and I am thinking that you need to find a new 12+ location. It would be easy to run a fused wire through the stock firewall grommit. Use 12 gauge wire.

ok, figured it out. First i tried giving the unit its own designated line fron the 12+ with a fuse as well as a ground directly from the battery, and it still got very very hot. But then i decided to see if it still got hot when the speakers weren't wired in, and it didnt. So then i checked all my speaker wires...so it turns out when i tapped into the wires for the rear speakers i forgot to dissconnect one of the factory sets of wires. So it was feeding into the factory amp and then back through my aftermarket unit therby causing a whole lot of headaches. Thanks to those who helped
