As far as amp setup goes, my philosophy is pretty straightforward: *ideally* you'd want a dedicated amp for each set of speakers, i.e., one for the separates, one for the rears, one for the sub(s), etc. And power-wise, at the minimum, I'd run an amp that is equal to the speaker's peak power RMS. Those Infinity Kappa 50.5cs w/ a power range of 2-85W, I'd run minimally 85W. In professional audio competition, the SQ guys would run something like 150W+ to those same speakers. Overkill it is, but that's for points and as I mentioned above, it's not always practical for everybody.

SpeedKing (sorry...either I missed or forgot your name), good point. There really are a gazillion ways to do it.
And I agree w/ you about the amp at *least* being as powerful as the RMS of your speakers, and a amp dedicated to the sub.
Any reason why you'd run the front and rear speakers of separate amps? I have front & rear components (front 2-way, rear as midbass), and I'm just using one higher end alpine 4 channel amp, so I can control each speaker.
EDIT: oh yea...where are you located SpeedKing? You close enough to come out to Roy's BBQ in MD this Saturday?

Ok, so now I"m really confused who should I be listening to about this, I know I definitely want a separate amp for the sub and one for the front. So in a sense a 2 channel 500watt amp for the fronts and mono amp ? watt for the sub. I guess I should be saving up more money for a good amp such as Zapco.

Well...the bottom line is...how much are you willing to spend?
If you ask me, here's the deal. You buy speakers, you use them for their worth. Otherwise (not to be harsh) get rid of the speakers, get cheaper ones that'll run off a cheaper amp, or even the built-in amp in the headunit, and a basstube instead of a sub.
OR...the way I'd go if I were you...get the amp for the speakers, a good powerful one (nothing crazy) but at least enough to keep or exceed the RMS power of EACH speaker (meaning if 85 watts is RMS for each speaker, make sure EACH CHANNEL of the amp has 85 watts...not a amp that's TOTAL 85 watts rms, cuz then you divide that into channels...each getting only a portion of the total, you follow?)
And definitely a mono-channel amp for the sub. Your sub is pretty good...200some RMS, and 1100 peak. Get somethin nice...(get my amp! lol) or at least somethin w/ 400-500 watts IMO. That would be sweet, but not too costly.
Hope that helps.

Power at 2 Ohms (Watts x Channels): 150 x 2
So this would mean on each channel it would be giving 75watts?

Just so you know where I'm coming from, one of my best friends and his brother work at a car audio shop and do high end installs and compete in IASCA events and separate and tweak EVERYTHING. They don't even use crimp connectors but hand solder most of the connections, and the solder they use has XXX amount of silver content and they use it because it's better than regular rosin solder and doesn't contaminate. Again, it's not cheap going about it this way, and it's not practical for everybody, and you'd have to be a hardcore audio freak to appreciate it all at this level.
I live out in Northern California. Don't think I'll make the BBQ since it's somewhat out of the way. You need to come out west for Sevenstock, and if you do, maybe I'll see you there.

this looks impressive and looks like it would push my components just enough right?
But obviously way too much money

Oh man...that's SUPER crucial. Running separate amps for EVERYTHING. Wow. I mean, now that I think about it...it's obviously the ultimate setup, so you can tune and tweak every part individually.
And to think I went a bit overboard by getting a 4 channel amp lol. My installer wanted me to run a 2 channel amp...but I'm real big on controlling the gain on my rear speakers so I can get some nice imaging. But I'm not complaining, since I don't want to be carrying around 50 amps lol...I don't want the weight nor do I have the room!
I was gonna ask you about the soldering...cuz if you don't use the right compound, you can actually increase the resistance, which will negatively impact your sound. But, as I'm sure you know, when done right, it's awesome.
I can't believe you're going to be lazy about coming to the BBQ....you have what...3 days to make it here?? That's PLENTY of time, if you drive the FD! lol
I actually REALLY wanna come to Sevenstock, but I dunno if I'm going to have time in my schedule, as school starts toward the end of August, and I have exams every 2 weeks. We'll see. If I do make it, i'd hafta fly in. I wish I could bring my car tho...=(

Speaker impedence for those Infinity separates are 4 ohms, so you'd want an amp that's powered at a minimum, 85x2 @ 4 ohms. Check your specs!

Step 2: find exact model of product desired
Step 3: note price on crutchfield or other large website/company
Step 4: proceed to ebay.com, and search for desired product
Step 5: purchase desired product for half price
Step 6: REJOICE!

Whats wrong with brands like this one here?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
seems perfect in numbers for my RMS and peak watts for my components

As for Sevenstock, as an RX-7 owner, you HAVE to make it out here for the event, at least once. Fly or drive, do what you have to do, but be here!

Haha, and then get fired from work, and miss my mid-term this week for what, a piece of rubber chicken?
