Good single 10-12" Sub for FD *Tight* install?
hi all... ok, i'm getting my FD back in a day or so and need to figure out what to do about my stereo situation... i had a custom box holding two JL 10" behind the storage area at an angle, but i just upgraded my whole fuel system and now have a surge tank sitting right there, so my only space for a sub will be either in the spare tire well (fiberglass, ughh) or a very slim enclosure near the total back of the storage area, right undr the hatch. should i use one of my JL 10"'s for this need, or do i need a sub that is made for lesser airspace? i'd like to recycle here, any advice from others who have had to deal w/ very little room on an FD for a sub install? i'm not sure where to start... thx all.

JL 10WX? Need to know what series. If it is the 3 or the 6 then keep and put in a 0.625 ft^3 box .. you will be happy but probably not as happy as your ported box. Also consider going with a Boston sub ... very tight hard bass. You can add a bass cube from Phoenix gold to either setup to get some SPL back. Sell one sub and get some $$ for the bass cube ... they are like $200 retail or $150 off the internet. You get a **** to mount to control bass from the driver's seat .. way cool and really effective!

base cube? is this a sealed sub w/ a power source? i guess i should have mentioned... i have a nice PPI 5x200 amp that i'd like to recycle in the system... can i power one of these 'base cube's you mentioned off of it? a drop-in solution would be so nice, as i'd like to be able to pull the sub unit when going to the track... thanks friend.

10W6 .... ah good sub!! The bass cube goes before the amplifier and extracts the most from the amp. It is really cool. Go to the Phoenix Gold web site. Many manuafactors use this piece of eqiupment to show off their amps and subs.

The JL 10W6 is a very nice sub I have three of them laying around my house waiting for a new application.
Here are a few others to consider
Blueprint 1001 or 1201. Both are at least the equivalent of the 10W6. With more xmax and similar effeciency, they are a good choice. For 69.00 and 79.00 respectively, you cannot get a better woofer for your money.
Adire Audio Shiva (115.00) outperforms nearly any other sub 200.00 woofer on the market for a lot less money. If you could give it 1 cu ft, you'd be happy with the results. This sub outperformed the three JL10W6s it replaced when it comes to SQ, and came close to equaling the output.
ONe more interesting option would be the Phase Linear Aliante sub. It's total depth on the 12" version is only about 3". It may only be available in Europe, and it's $$$ but would make for a killer sub in this situation.

Audiomobile makes the EVO and MASS speakers. Just a warning about them. They sell great subwoofers, but they are very expensive. In my experience they don't offer a very good value compared to some of their competition. They also have an owner that seems hell bent on pissing on every potential customer by belittling them ( i should say attempting to belittle them) on car sound forums on the net. He also seems to attack any of his competitors without cause in most cases. Don't know if that will affect your speaker buying but it is something to consider.

Kicker Solo-Baric the new square ones. A 10" sounds like 12" and requires less air than a traditional designed speaker.

I'd go with a 12" Boston Pro in the spare tire well. Thats what I'm planning on doing. These subs are awesome!!!! My best friend has two in the spare tire well of his MKIV Supra and they are INSANE hitting off the glass of the hatch. Thats what I'd do.

The Perfects are nice but don't handle too much power. If you are considering a 10", check out the Titanic 1000 from www.partsexpress.com. If you are thinking about a 12" that will blow away the Perfects in every respect but looks, check out the Dayton DVC or AdireAudio Shiva available at www.partsexpress.com and www.adireaudio.com, respectively.

What sounds the best.
Pretty much what I'm looking for is a 10" Thats sounds nice and clear, since I normally don't want to rattle my trunk or windows. But I would like somethig that can pound if I want it to, for those times some guy thinks is 2 12" from radio shack can out pound me.
which one should I get? perferable something that doens't lighten my wallet to much.

The blueprint 01 series would be close but not quite a match for the Perfects, but they are under half the money. Two of them would blow away the Infinity's. If you are considering the HX2, then the BP 03 series would be the way to go. They will lay the RFs to waste along with almost any other sub on the market.

Thanks, I'll look into the blueprints.
Any other suggestions?
*edit*
I just checked the website and they don't have the 03 in a 10" size It sounded pretty impressive from they're description too.
Any suggestions a 10" that sounds good but can blow away alot of other stuff?

The Titanic 1000 from www.partsexpress.com is pretty nice. As well as the SB10 from www.stryke.com. I don't know of a real cheap 10" that has exceptional SPL capabilites. The two I mentioned have better SQ than a 10W6 from my experience and are cheaper. The SB10 from stryke is an exception woofer for SQ.

Well, looks like my friends hook-up has fallen through, so once again I am open to suggestions. Some of the audio shops in town have recommended audiobahn, eclipse, and soundstream. What do you guys think of those?

Driven a turbo FB lately?
iTrader: (1)
Id go to Radio Shack and get ya one of those bad *** 10 or 12 inch realistics LOL jUST PLAYING
We sell Audiobahn at my store but there warranty really sucks. they wont let us do in store tradeouts. The speakers are pretty good, but I think they look better than they sound. Ive done a few Soundstream Mules before, they were Ok, but PRICEY as hell.
better thing to ask is what is your price range?
