good 10' sub for bandpass

hey guys, i have two jensen bandpass boxes that i picked up real cheak. as you can imagine the jensen subs are not all that impressive, but the boxes are great. I need a good quality sub that will run OK in a bandpass box. hopefully not going to cost me 300$ each too. anyone know of any good 10' subs for bandpass boxes? thanks

They may have changed, but in the past all the the Jesen boxes I ever saw were made out of cheap particle board.

Particle board tends to vibrate and is not very dense. It is a poor choice for a band pass enclosure.

If they are made out of particle board, you will not want to use a very powerful woofer, with lots of amplification, as the speaker will eventually blow the box apart.

All that said I can't think of a decent cheap woofer that will work well in a band pass, but maybe mike can recommend one.

the particle board is very dense actually, well constructed boxes, thats why i bought them. they aren't jensen boxes they are made by the store i bought them at, they just came loaded with cheap jensens. I'm willing to pay around 150-200$ american per sub, but i just suggestions on what kinds will sound best in a bandpass enclosure.
thanks

I use particle board sometimes, but Icemark is right. You get too many parasitic vibrations. Also prefab particle board boxes are stapled and barely glued. When I build boxes they are screwed, glued with liquid nails, and then braced in any area that has a long flat span paralell with another flat span

Also watch what subs you drop into a bandpass enclosure, the ports may not be exactly right. And a word of wisdom, dont use a 12W6 as a band pass sub, unless you wanna spend the rest of your days in a padded cell, trying to figure out how to get a 4 in port 30 inches long into a 1 cubic foot box. LOL
