Free Air Usage??? Still good bass???

I have a 90 Vert and would like to get subs; however, I don't want to use the trunk, and I want to keep the spare tire. The previous owner of the car put 6.5" MBQuart "subs" behind the seats. I could put 10s or maybe 12s where those are but they wouldn't be enclosed. Would they sound like crap? I want good SQ but I want to get kicked in the back as well. Is all this possible with free air usage?

in a freea air application the front of the speaker has to be seperated from the rear or it will just flutter and won't play very good.
