More debunking of the haters. We are talking about a mechanical part. Speakers are an electromechanical device. They only work correctly when supported mechanically by what is called a baffle. If said baffle (adapter) does not fit correctly to the door because the alignments are off and you can only get 3 out of 5 screws to fit. Now you have a rattling, buzzing, POS sounding speaker. For everyone if you don't want one of these then get off our thread and stop hating.

well MDF is not inferior in its dampening ability which (aside from moisture) makes it a spectacular choice for speaker brackets . Cutting down on resonance is important for a quality stereo install, and MDF is one method for attacking it. I've got some MDF brackets I made for myself and scrub but I don't want to derail this thread postwhoring my setup. I do have a few extra blanks I've made.

Also as an aside... you cant really make a "universal 6.5" speaker bracket" because many speakers have a slightly different mounting hole size. There are a few common sizes but this is by no means a one size fits all type deal.... ask me how I know

Good luck ! -Heath

Closed cell foam should be used between the spacer and the door, as well as between the speaker and the spacer. That will remove any buzzing and give you a solid mounting, but yeah, you should be able to engage all of the screws. I think mine has 5? 6? something like that.

99% of true 6.5'' speakers will fit in a 5.5'' cutout so I think that part is covered. I agree with you of the properties of MDF. I just dont think cloning a set by hand will get repeatable results. The CNC machine does give you that. The foam is a good idea since metal and plastic dont always get along and will fill in any irregularities that would leave space for buzzing.

The 5.5" hole size is by no means universal. I've tried 3 sets of 6.5" speakers and none of them have that size hole. The polks I have are larger, while rainbows were smaller which would leave a very small mounting lip. Maybe cheap speakers are standardized?? idk

Hey Derek!

I sent this guy a pair of my speakers to help have custom brackets made. I'm just reporting back on the product I have received. I have no financial interest in these products whatsoever...I was just the person brave enough to send their OEM brackets in to have prototypes made.

If this thread violates anything, just let me know. I'd just like it stated that I am not manufacturing nor am I profiting in any manner from these.

Okay Gringo and Newsome ya'll and this thread are fine. I guess I got lost on who is making what, whose sending cores, etc and overread the part where someone will be selling these on ebay. It's not violating anything just as long as you aren't trying to run a GB on here without being a vendor.

BTW Gringo, when we gonna do another Gainesville/Ocala/Tampa meet?

Gringo, any chance you took a measurement for the speaker size that will fit these? Do you think these will these fit a 6 1/2" speaker?

Thanks!

Initial Impressions: I'm not a big car stereo guy so someone more experienced may disagree. However I was VERY impressed with the quality of the beta of this product. No rough edges, everything smooth, and wow! Even instructions!

When I went to test the adapter, I ran into one small problem that the creator could not have known about and that is the wire that runs up through the speaker spot into the various door connectors. While this wire could be moved, in my feedback to the developer it seems more logical to make a 1/2" to 1" allowance for this wire and my personal expectation is the bracket will fit perfectly.

Once again I was very impressed with the initial quality of these adapters and screws and nylon spacers were included. Please see pictures for further details (apologies for iPhone pictures in a poorly lighted garage).

Hi All! I'm supposed to receive the v2.0 with my feedback early next week. At that time I will take pictures/measurements with glass lowered, door skins on, etc.

I have already spoken to the creator about contacting the mods about being a vendor and he is open to a group buy.

Just wanted to give an update.

Lets see since this post started. I found a new job, went through a transition period. Paid off the RX7. Moved from Cali to Colorado. Developed a boost leak and oil leak. One day my RX7 will have good midbass again. But now i have to find my leaks first. Im not saying this is taking long but I may get married and have kids first then have no need for such speakers.

^ i can beat that... I also started a new job, got a new gf (she loves the seven.. very important, cant have a gf that gets jealous), also paid off parts and other stuff.... didn't move out of state, but moved closer to the new job. Had to replace brake pads, rear hatch shocks and change insurance carriers, but no boost leak (knock on wood). As for kids, ahh, better make sure the gf is taking her pills ...

I'm thinking I will have a pair of these before the end of the month ... anyway, I still have more passenger door work to do. and I need a smog by the end of the week

That's great news! I'm in a cast, so my car will be sitting anyway and I can wait to buy some brackets.

I emailed the guy about making the same thing for FD RX7 front Bose replacment brackets and he said HE'D LOVE TO MAKE THEM!

He needs someone to donate a set of BOSE speaker brackets. Whoever donates theirs for prodcution will get a free set of adapter brackets when he's done.

I would donate mine but I drive my car daily now and don't want to be without radio while stuck in traffic.

If anyone has some lying around, or perhaps their car is down for a motor build or something, would anyone be willing to donate? You'll get them back and a free set of the adapters..

Let me know!

dude,,, i welded in 6&1/2" rear speaker brackets from a 92-95 honda civic hatchback in my doors of my FD, everything fits like a champ and best of all it cost me $10 from a junkyard. Ive never revealed this to the public, but i just now got sick of seeing these dumb threads when i made the answer to this dilemma rediculously simple.

Dude...chill with the thread crap.

1) I doubt most people have the time/inclination/ability to weld.
2) Without starting a debate about what people make per hour, I'm saving money if I pay some guy $40 to ship me a pair of these pre-made instead of taking an hour plus to go to the junkyard and then paying to have them welded.
3) I like the idea that these brackets are a little less permanent than welding.
4) Someone makes a decent and inexpensive product for a car 10+ years out of production and you are going to thread crap? Good job Bro!
5) The worst part...you have Civic parts in your FD.

So...your opinion and contribution has been noted. Please stay out of the thread from now on if you don't have anything positive to contribute.

Thank you.

We just aren't that inventive to go find speaker brackets from another car and welding them in. Instead we just get some custom fabricated to fit perfectly and re-sell to people who need them.
