Fixed my biggest pet peeve with my 2nd gen

The only thing I don't like about my 7 is the lack of a cupholder. Had some spare time over the last few days so I came up with this. Holds a regular can perfectly and still allows me to store my wallet in the center console.

It's 1/4 of an inch think, and recessed on the bottom to keep it light. It's a bit hard to tell in the pictures but the rotor shape actually stands up from the plate slightly (0.080" or 2mm). It's a friction fit but I also cut some grooves in the bottom to allow me to add support legs if I decide to. This one is just a mock up, I think I'll powder coat the final one to help prevent scratches in the aluminium.

And yes I know my car is dirty .... I just got it and with the 2 feet of snow on the ground I haven't been able to give her a good cleaning.

Only problem is that I always rest my arm on the rest for shifting and would make that awkward. I bought a 96 Altima cup holder on ebay. fits in the DIN slot under the cd player.

Yeah the aluminium stands out a bit too much, but I'll fix that eventually. There are a few small tweaks I need to do to the design anyhow, so I'll powder coat the next one.

I thought about doing something like that but then I'd have a hard time reaching the buttons on my deck with a drink in there. I also wasn't sure about the clearance with the shifter. The last thing I's want is to shift into 3rd and knock my drink over. For me this was the lesser of two evils, although I may try out your way if I find a holder at the wreckers.
