Finally sonic UTOPIA in my FD (PICS!)
This is my sixth system in the FD, ive been to both extremes with $2000+ componets all the way down to $300 alpine type X's. I feel i finally have got the right combination that results in sonic bliss. Heres my set-up:
Alpine W200 with IPOD control
front rainbow profi 5.225
rear rainbow profi 6.5
sub: soundsplinter rlp-12
amp: audison lrx 6.9
Couple of notes. To those who say rear fill is a waste or makes the imaging worse needs to learn what time alignment is. I noticed a lot of people conform to form standards i.e 99spec front or the hate of veilside, this is just another example. The rear speakers are AMAZING and with some time alignment you CANT tell that the sound is coming from the rear but the sound field sounds exactly in the middle. I also like the audison 6ch amp as it really simplifies space and wiring. I made the box myself and started it from scratch, it fits like a glove too. Many people also criticized me that the rear speakers would eventually break and or rattle. I have had two different sets and nothing rattles to this day, nice clean bass. Enough of my rambling and on to a couple pics:
alpine w200 + ipod picture here, also you can see my custom leather boot as well (a/t for now, will do 5spd over the summer)
Here is a picture of the amp and sub, all wires are ran underneath the mat and nothing is exposed, real clean.
Pic of the rear speakers
We went around campus (UF) and took some pics, here are a couple, the rest are located here:https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...56#post7325556

Time alignment usually means added processors.
Added processors usually means additional distortion and coloration to the sound.
Time alignment is a real pain in the ***, and I dunno what your definition of "the sound field sounds exactly in the middle" is, but I put money it's not going to sound as good to the person seated in the passenger seat?

Just by looking at the pics, I'd be very pessimistic about the fact that you happened to drop drivers in those positions and miraculously have a very stable sound stage as you described.
Just mentioning the term "time alignment" almost always implies some kinda manipulation of the sound field from individual drivers.
It's been YEARS since I've seriously messed with this stuff, so the above does not mean anything to me.
I do have an old Alpine 3xxx "time alignment" digitial field processor sitting in my closet collectin dust which I haven't had the time to really mess with.
I'll leave the details of optical signal transmission to the experts, but I do know that it is possible to induce distortion through such systems.
Subjective sound quality can be inconsistent from person to person.
Even "SQ judges" can have very widely different opinions...
Unless these guys are named Harry, Richard, or Todd, it really doesn't impress me what they think.
You can ignore my comments, since I just happened to click this thread out of boredom.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

but if you did and you ran an optical out you wouldnt see any distortion what so ever. Of course it will color the sound, just like every HU colors the sound other than maybe mcintosh or the 9255.

I usually dont have a passenger if i do, the music is usually off or very low, nor am i concerned about them being to the right of the sound field. I have had close to 30 people in the car ( 5 of which are former SQ judges who helped me tune it) with rear speakers and TA and have never had one person say that it sounded off or that the music sounded like it was coming from the left.
