Repaint prices?
I was curious on what you are looking to pay to repaint our cars or what people have paid for repainting there cars. If anybody has had it done tell me what you experience was or what you hear also pics, this is your time to shine feel free to post some of the pics of your car after having it done. Thanks feedback much appreciated
It may be just me but a freshly painted Rx7 looking like it just came off the showroom floor just makes my mouth water..

Well I'm getting a complete color change from MB to IBM, and I'm having JDM sidemarkers, 99 spec rear wing, and a RE 99 Spec front bumper installed for just under $2400. Granted I know the manager of the body shop quite well so I'm getting a real good deal but if I was to pay full price I'm guessing it would be around 4-5k.

A top of the line job (remove all old paint, remove ALL dents and dings, fine sanding then wet sanding, using NO bondo, only metal glaze, resanding and wetsanding again (minimum of 3 times) removing all gaskets around windshields etc, painting door jambs, underside of hood, fender well, etc...) basically what it says: top of the line job, w/ a top of the line tri-stage paint + clearcoat, which is BAKED, NOT just air dried, at a top of the line body shop will NEVER EVER run you less then $5K. That's pretty much the base cost. You're really looking at $6K - $8K, depending on the existing damage and size of the car. Clearcoat by itself is quite expensive...
Of course, just how perfect you want your paint job to be is up to you... RX7SIGN, since you're local, the shop I'm talking about (which is practically legendary for their work on FD's) is Mr Spoiler in Manassas. www.mrspoiler.com There really isn't anyone better, or w/ more experience w/ FDs: stock, modified, body kits, total losses, the works.
Here's a pic of a 93 R1 that the shop just repainted:
And here's a pic of mine pretty much the day after I got it repainted:

Smart choice. I honestly think it's 100 times smarter to just sit and wait then go cheap and have a not-so-nice job done. Cuz you can never take it back, and going back to do it again (or fix the problems) is always more expensive than doing it once the right way.
BTW, on that note, if you want to really bring out the shine in your FD, take it to Dan @ Mr Spoiler, and have him do the Zymol wax & buff full detail on the car. Takes like 4 hours, and you'll swear it's new paint - and it'll stay super bright for months!

Many times a decent original paint job can be brought back to life with a really good detail job. Drive up to the back of a detail shop and talk to the guys who do it, they'll show you how it is done.

It is generally better that a car is not sanded to bare metal. Unless a vehicle has a primer problem (in which case some early FDs did), you will likely have better adhesion with the factory paint/primer. Ideally, you would want to take as much as you can off the orginal paint/primer without going to bare metal, and then shoot new sealer/primer/base/etc over that.
The majority of the cost of painting is the prep and r&r of parts. If you can find a bodyshop that will work with you, you can save some money by doing the disassembly and resassembly yourself. The cost of supplies and the labor of actually shooting the paint is negligable.

Yeah I would love to do that detail job and have it come out in good condition. The only thing that bothers me is on some parts it looks like either the paint has really became dull from oxidation etc or the paint is getting so dull it wont be able to be brought back to life. I would love to post pics but I dont think they are hosted.

Here are some pics my cousin wanted me to host for him of his car. Please excuse the MR2 in the photos. He also wanted me to note that the interior, suspension, transmission, motor are in flawless condition and runs great.
imo, i dont think he should waste his money on a repaint job, considering that this car is a daily driver and is rained on almost everyday in VA. But its up to you cuz. plus you have to remember, you are driving a 1993 car with over 70K miles on it. i think the car looks fine the way it is

I don't see a prob w/ the paint at all. AND, I've seen his car in person. A nice wax job and detail will do wonders. Save your money for when you get 1001 dings, scratches, bumps, etc, and the paint is in REAL bad shape. It's fine right now. Just needs a lil TLC
