FD Hood Vents: Need Help
#26
I'm curious also.
After my last track event, I've been contemplating a good venting hood to decrease temps. There doesn't seem to be an all encompassing FD Vented Hood thread. Maybe this thread will help.
The TS and KS (Knightsports) style hoods seem pretty good.
I don't really like that hood with the open snout that gonzz posted.
That custom work from agmoto looks pretty cool too. I think it may need more vents to further decrease under hood temps but it seems like it will do a wonderful job of increasing air flow through the intercooler.
Any others??

Hope this link works, it's a detail picture of the vent: http://web.mac.com/markrolston/iWeb/...17E424DA6.html

I just saw a Dodge Viper and I really like the way the hood is vented:
So I'm leaning towards having a body shop person custom "stamp" my hood for vents like the ones above. Should maintain the stock look to a degree but also allow the car to breath. What do you think?

^ Yep, thought about that too. Actually found a pretty neat looking Mercedes AMG vent. Am still concerned though as to how much heat would be disapated with a vent like the above.
Maybe I should just rip the one off my buddy's M3 and try it - don't think he'd notice

Check out the louvers on this car, start at picture 265 for louvers: http://www.mat.fi/project1984toyotacelicaturbo.htm

^So I've decided to do something like the above (minus the girl unfortunately).
Gotham is going to custom cut two vents into my stock hood much like the ones in the pics. I've asked them to source a high quality mesh and then powder coat/paint it black to match the hood. The hood will also be repainted.
Total cost - $550 - 600.

EEEEK! For that price I think the louvers on the viper or my links would be much nicer.

^It would be difficult to do louvers on the stock hood because its aluminum. The shape would be tough to maintain. So then I have to buy a new hood out of fiberglass or carbon fiber - minimum cost is $500 or $600 and that's on the cheap side. Most of the ones I like are in the $1500 range.
It's not really cost for me though. I like the stock look and want to maintain it as much as possible. The vented solution will give me this. To each his own I guess

I like the one from atihun. The workmanship was good. It's a knockoff of the mazdaspeed one so it's functional and tasteful IMO. Hard to see from these old pics, but you may get the idea.

I wish I had pics of the underside, but you may be able to find some from atihun's site, or you may be able to search the forum and come up with something. As you can see from my car, by choosing the fiberglass hood and painting it body color, it's very subtle, almost invisible.

That's cool, different strokes for different folks. I did it like that to get adequate flowrate for my intercooler. Atihun's hood is "very nice", but those vents don't really do much as far as venting purposes goes. Mr. Hayes needs something that provide much more venting while being low profile at the same time.
