I have the same problem as far as the seats go. When I was shopping for an RX-7 a while back, I got to try the R1 seats in a 95' and it felt pretty good. I'm in a touring now so the leather seats don't seem as comfortable. I've been looking around for seats that are not as high up as well as more comfortable (same leg numbness after about 2 hours of driving). The reason why I want seats that don't sit to high is because my thigh touches the steering wheel which isn't good because I can't bring my hand under the wheel. The mazda speed ones seem to look like a good fit and the seat cushion seems to have low profile but I haven't found anyone who has those seats so I can't try them out. I've seen some generic seats on ebay listed for the FD; has anyone tried those ebay seats and do they fit?

Thanks,
Josh

Thumbs up

Sorry, but I didn't look at your entire post, it's too long.

I currently have the Sparco Torino seats in my FD and they are adjustable. I'm 5'10" @ 175 pounds and 8% body fat. I love the seats, they are extremely comfortable and provides a lot of support. The longest trip was to Virginia, which took 6 hours and my *** hurt a little bit I made custom brackets, which took a few hours to complete this task.

Also, for extra leg room, I replaced the ugly steering wheel with the Momo Club 4 steering wheel.

Pic sucks, but I can upload more pics if you like tomorrow.

Man I hear ya on the seats...

I'm~6'3" and 220 The "deadleg" after a long drive was always an issue, I thought I just had a fat butt. That or the r-1 seats were too tight. I have a set of Torino Knockoff seats off of eBay in my fd. (prevously sold under the DAD brand)

I know you said you didn't want to make brackets, but I made some out of some scraps of steel. Just had to spend a weekend measuring and drilling, no welding. Next week I am taking them out of my car, and could take a pic and measurements for you. Then it would be pretty easy to replicate. They lower your seating position ~1.5 inches, and are much more forgiving for american butt (prolly why you sit lower). Also the shoulders are fine even with a decent build.

I mention my setup as it is by far the best budget method I could come up with and the seats recline and are comfortable and actually look good. Mine have been in for a couple years now. You do need to modify your stock rails (mostly just detach the seatbelt pickup). But any custom that lowers your ride height would require that.

If you want to step up to another (IMO better) setup the spirit r recaro seats are real comfortable vs. stock, lower your ride position and crazy light. They also fit the FD like a glove as they are made to sit in the funky space required by the FD. But they are not reclineable, though the angle is just right and quite comfy.
(a little bird may have told me there may be a cheaper version availiable soon, one with custom adapters to stock US brackets)

I just checked eBay, and these look similar to mine:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-New...22436692QQrdZ1 I will try to compare measurements with mine this weekend.

^ did your legs ever touch the steering wheel before with the r1 seats? i test drove a 7 and i've also 6'3 220 and my legs slightly touched the wheel. there was a roll bar in the car that prevented the seat from moving back the final probably .5-1 inch, which may be the culprit but if this mod gives enough room then it may be the option to take rather than remove the section behind the seats if i purchase the car.

Racers don't have time to work out, eat shitty and generally don't do nothing but race, that is why they don't make them. I experienced the same problem and I am just a little broader than most people. I settled with some Tenzo R Rallys, but that is because I had them already. They do touch the door panel and I am not sure how I managed to get them in there. They are extremely padded and conforming even for a Rally bucket. I am not tall though so that can make a huge difference. Let us know what you decide on.

lol, I'm back! and, i still havent gotten seats yet, sheesh...

I actually just returned from the doctor because my right leg continues to kill me, maybe this is a physical problem with me?

did multiple tests, went to a ANOTHER specialist,

conclusion: YOU NEED DIFFERENT SEATS, SON!! L.O.L.!!!!!!!!

so I'm looking AGAIN...

I might just pul the trigger on something, anything!! soon, the JIC seats are attractive, havent got any feedback on leg bolster comfort on them ?,

The Buddy clubs look nice, but without recline, I'm a little scared.....

maybe I should just pull my door skins off and run the Cr-1's, or maybe I should sell the car and pour the profit into restoring my 69 f-bird...lol (I just cant do it :P)

anyway, I know theres alot of info here, but, if anyone has anything new too say about ANY seats going in the FD please, by all means.....

Pick up a set of Sparco Milanos or Torinos (they can be found fairly cheaply used on ebay) and fabricate brackets to mount them to the stock rails

Torinos do not fit into an Rx-7 FD. You will have to remove both ajusting ***** and cut the shaft to make them fit and you will also have door problems because of the width of the shoulders. And I think that milano wont fit either because the guy at Sparco usa told me that they all use the same shaft width.

If you dont beleive me just go on Jspec's website a read his install guide.

^RotorFrank---Listen to GoodfellaFD3S...the Sparco Torino seats WILL fit in FD's. You have to adjust the brackets. Here's a pic.

These seats have been discussed NUMEROUS amounts of times and plenty of guys have them installed in their cars. Here's a pic;

Can you show me a new pic of the torino seats because It looks like I caught this post to late.l Jay7 said he had to cut them, and I tried it also and the shoulder part of the seat strike the door when you close it. And I'd like an answer quickly because I'm about to purchase some Bride Vios III and sell my torinos because I dont want to hack them to make them fit like Jay7spec did.

where can u buy mounting brackets??? Most seats even the Ebay knockoffs only sell seats and slider rail, but i can't seem to find places that sells the brackets. Are they universal for all types of aftermarket seats if it says for FD RX-7 ?

sorry for the noob question on this. i've never bought aftermarket seats before. probably looking to get a ebay knock off before i can afford some JIC or recaros. so i'm hoping to find bracket for some generic aftermarket Sparco look-alikes w/out any modification to them. Any info will be great. thanks in advance

I think there's something wrong with them. Generally speaking, they look cheap, and I question their safety. Plus, a nice car like an FD deserves nice parts, not ebay made in japan xs power bullshit. There are exceptions (like an intercooler perhaps) but for seats I decided that I was going to stay far far away from knockoffs. It's like everytime I see Konig wheels on an FD, I shudder. Yuck.

Recaro has a new recliner out called the SR Impact Pro. It looks as though the bottom cushion is very low, similar to the Low Max line from Bride. I'm having a tough time finding them in the U.S. however. They "look" like a good fit for the FD. Group buy anyone???

Might want to go to a dealer/retailer. They'll be able to recommend a good seat for your needs rather than you trying to figure it for yourself here. Plus you'll be able to test sit in them. There is a good place down here in SD if you feel like taking a trek.

Bringing this back from the dead.
I was trying to find more info on the SR Impact Pro, (Recaro), but with no luck.
Does anyone in this thread actually have the Mazdaspeed seats installed? I'd really like to see a picture if you have one?
