Hi Jeff,

is your CD unit now free? I need one to prove my wiring things. I could measure how the system control lines are switched when CD, tape, tuner is working.
King of Bose.. lol
The joke is that I am probably the only one who has no Bose system and as a German a slightly different factory system.

Hi Wankel Power,
what problem did you have and why it's too late?

Tobias

I forgot something:

You can also check the Mazda stereo wiring of 1983-1989(92) cars.

Only in German but you should be able to understand:

For what it is worth:

The 13 position male DIN connector that Tobias is talking about is readily available at www.digikey.com. Part # CP-1013-ND at 1.65 + shipping and handling.

A word of caution however, The OEM plug is a 90 degree male, the digikey connector is straight. Digikey is a HUGE electronics parts supply house and even they don't list the 90 degree variety. I do not know if the straight shielded portion of the plug is short enough to fit between the back of the unit and the support post. If not, it should be easily modified by cutting and taping.

Wire color codes to 13 pin DIN

Here are the color codes for the wires that enter the 13 pin DIN Connector. These were checked with a DVOM and if the company was normal should be the same for all CD players to Clarion Head units

Hi,

yes, the connector is available at digikey.
Just use some search engines at try to find a shop in your neighbourhood.
But prices vary quite much.
A jack should be 1-2 USD, not more.
In Germany e.g. Hirschmann produces these connectors.
They also name it "Diodenstecker" and sell it for ATARI monitor use.

What personal messages should I check, Jeff?

Thank you for the colors.
Your headunits are from Clarion?? The German ones are made by Panasonic.
We still need to know how the system controls have to be switched. If I had a stock unit and CD player, I would measure it.

The Private Messaging system on this forum is accessed from the bottom of the page found at www.rx7club.com/forum/. The title is Private Messages and tells you how many "new messages" and how many "unread messages". It is a way for private information to be transmitted between forum members. I sent you one of these messages last week. I now have the unit I talked about and it is ready to go. Please read the message and respond.

Cheers

Jeff

Here is the URL for a stateside Bose repair guy on this page he lists the maker for each type of Mazda OEM Bose unit available, the usual problems and a general cost to repair.

The units that come in the 94 Touring are the Matsushita-Panasonic CD and the Clarion headunit.

His other pages are helpful also. He is the one stereo guy I contacted who knew for sure that a "shorting plug" should be available, but like the rest of us, could never find a Mazda dealer that could get one. He said most Madza mechanics usually had one laying in their toolboxes but couldn't remember where they got them.

It seems only the German/European headunits are made by Panasonic. I am sure because it even is labelled on the front face.
But maybe it also depends on the model year.
Maybe in winter 93 the Matsushita president had an affair with Mazdas president's wife and so from 94 heasunits are made by Clarion.

Thank you again for the CD player!
And also for the buying link. I will check it!

OK folks

Here is where you can get a 13 pin DIN cable to connect your auxillary input directly to your clarion headunit

http://www.cdchangersonline.com/itm00113.htm

A little pricey $20. but just not too bad when you figure it has everything you need. Just apply Tobias's suggestions to the pinout color codes and you should be in business.

If we work on this a little more we may even be able to identify a way to bypass the need for an external switch and use the switching capabilites of the Clarion headunit to sense when the new input is active.

Wait fellas!

The hardware fits. But I guess this cable is to connect a Clarion cd changer with a Clarion headunit.
But both have to be C(e)-Bus compatible.
And I really fear that the Mazda OEM headunit has another pinout because the same pinout is on the European 3rd gen radio made by Panasonic (with RDS).
As far as I know the C(e)-Bus is not as old as our headunits.

But no problem. As far as I have the OEM stuff, I will measure the control lines and make a switching that will allow to connect other devices thru line-in or even hands free in.

Cheers,
Tobias

Clarion C-Bus and Ce-Net are different. The Ce-Net does exist since 99.
But I'm really not sure that the 13 pin DIN is the Clarion C-Bus.

Anyhow, we will make our way.

Cool site, Tobias!

I have some additional info on mine. Go to the URL below, and then see Upgrades --> Body & Interior --> Stereo Info. Click on the link to Wade Lanham's Stereo Upgrade Info.

Also see How-to --> Electrical --> Stereo.

Hi Steve,

yes, I already know your site. It's great.
I did not read all, but some of the Bose upgrade stuff is not my opinion.
Everything is made only to work best with each other: Speakers, amps...
So I would not modifiy anything of the Bose system or change everything.

Take care,
Tobias
