We are currently in the process of exploring options for making replacements out of aluminum to perfectly match the 93 and 94+ FD interior plastics. This piece will be made using the same process as our replacement passenger door handle -> https://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-product-dev-fd-rx-7-269/gb-fd-aluminum-passenger-door-handle-sakebomb-garage-922132/ . We'll have more details shortly

I spoke with Chip this morning regarding news for the map pocket pricing, it will be available by late Friday. A group by will be started no later than Monday depending how fast he can get it set up with internetbrands.com.

There will be 2 items up for a group buy,

1 # Cast map pocket with choice of material/surface finish
2 # Cast Passenger door handle

Thanks

Guys, leave the pricing out of the tech section, especially for unpaid vendors. Once the GB is live on the forum, you'll all know it

That's funny, cause SakeBomb Garage already made and sold the passenger door handle, after no one was willing to produce it for years. I guess competition is a good thing though it would make more business sense for you to create a part which has not already been produced. There are a ton of parts out there which the FD community would benefit from seeing made (and pay for in large numbers)... but that ship has kinda sailed on the passenger door handle. That being said, we're happy to go toe to toe with ya on price

BTW what mold process are you using? There is only one type of casting process which will retain an identical stock finish and it's not particularly cheap to do Anything less will not match the stock interior pieces that it sits next to

It would be nice if someone stepped up and did the driver's side window switch as well. The mechanical aspect and not the electrical. As you all know those are also prone to breaking and we end up paying a whole switch assembly only to break again in a few years. I already replaced mine but every time I lower my window I think to myself how eventually that plastic piece is gonna break and I may not be able to replace it lol

BTW who is chipmotorsports? All I can find as far as parts is a knockoff of the CJ Dual Pump Assembly with no price (which actually looks like like it IS the original red CJ assembly) , the 929 master cylinder, and some flanges lol . I don't see much innovation coming from this shop, to be frank. Also, ripping off the CJ pump hanger really rubs me the wrong way as those guys spent a ton of time end effort designing that piece, only to have someone buy one and represent the design as their own. I really respect the guys at CJ for their innovation, engineering and customer service so seeing parts of theirs either copied or misrepresented doesn't leave a great taste in my mouth... at all.

I could care less if the texture of a door handle or map pocket lid isn't the same as the rest of the interior. I personally don't think having the same texture is worth an extra $150 or so to be quite honest, which is why I didn't get a door handle...not to mention the fact that I fixed mine last year and it is still working just fine. However, if someone produced a door handle with the same quality for a hell of a lot less, I'd look into getting one. As for the map pocket lid, same thing. While I'm not crazy about paying $300 for one, I'm thinking about it just so I never have to replace or repair the thing again.

Now, where are we on that fire extinguisher bracket? LOL

I'll respond to this...

Chip from Chipsmotorsports.com is great builder with lots of knowledge and experience. His attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship exceeds most of the experiences I've had with so called rotary experts in the community. He has built me a few engines (Street ported 13BT and Large street ported 13B-REW) for different cars in the past and I very pleased with the results. I use the cars for autox events and open track days under extreme conditions. They perform great and that he resulted in my aformentioned opinion of his skills. This is based on experiences I've had and not merely a "fan boy" response without validity.

Next, perhaps you have misunderstood what Chipsmotorsports Fuel Components section represents? He has built several fuel systems (a few pictured) for customers to their desired specification at times using products (CJ Motorsports dual pumps) the customer has provided or requested. I think the Fuel Components page on his website is more of a representation of service capabilities rather than something specific to purchase. It might explain why there is no pricing information.......? I'm not sure if Chip knows the guys at CJ Motorsports or not, but the fact that he would use or recommend their products would suggest that he has respect for them.

Based on your hasty comments I would guess you haven't conducted any business with Chipmotorsports at all? This makes everything you suggest an opinion devoid of fact. The bad taste in your mouth is likely the recklessness of making unsubstantiated speculations about a shop attempting to provide quality products and services to our enthusiast community.

I'm excited to see the map pocket and passenger door handle offered by Chipsmotorsports.com. The option of have matching finishes on the map pocket and passenger handle would add a balanced touch to my interior at an affordable alternative to other products available on the market.

Put me down for one of each on the GB

+1

I'd be interested in quality plastic parts. I know the aluminum parts are probably nice but it seems like plastic would be cheaper and more original.

Really nice to see people exploring making some of these parts.

I wonder if anybody in Japan could some specs, or molds from Mazda.

I think aluminum is warranted in this case because the plastic cover flexes too much when you rest your arm on it, and it makes the entire car feel cheap - drives me nuts

Not too hard to make an aluminum one, I made this of 16 gauge aluminum sheet and a pivot pin made of aluminum bar stock, turned down at the ends and milled to a tapered flat. the pivot pin is inserted first by sliding to the front of the door, then moved backwards to engage the rear pin and the door top panel is screwed on, which keeps the pin in position so it can't come out. I just didn't bother to paint or anodize it yet.

Thats pretty badass. If you could find a way to hide the screws (so its just flat on top), I would be interested in paying you to make me one.

Very nice. Sounds like you have some great tools to work with and the skill needed as well.

You could black anodize that sucker. You could even cover it in leather. The possibilities are endless.

That is definitely cool. I wish I had the skills/tools to make one myself.
