Do Gullwing doors work on original fenders ????
Hey I have been looking at pics of the RE-Amemiya gullwing doors.....it seems like you need wider fenders to fit all the hydralics in......Dose anyone know about this or can they give me info on it.
Like for example would those door work with original fenders and the GTC side skirts ?

Since I've never seen any of the FD gull wing cars in person, I couldn't tell you. Only going by what I've "heard".

Well, technically, those are scissor doors... gullwing doors are hinged at the top of the windows and swing out like wings.
Ok, I don't know a lot about the RE doors, but I believe the ones on the camo FD are hydrolic and completely automatic (push a button, doors open) where as the blue FD's doors are more manual (lift door up by hand).
If you look closely at the blue FD you will notice that the vent behind the front wheel is gone and in it's place is just a little indention suggesting it (most likely just to blend in with the lines on the door itself). I believe this is because of the mechanism for the door. So, I doubt it would work with stock fender.

In the US, you'll have find a custom shop and you are still looking around $12-15k for the job.
There is a reason not many FD's have that done, and it's because it's damn expensive.

Ethan RX-7 ""but I believe the ones on the camo FD are hydrolic and completely automatic (push a button, doors open) where as the blue FD's doors are more manual (lift door up by hand)."" your 100% right. the door kit tha RE
Amemiye sell is hydrolic and does cost 12K. but you can't
get theme in the states. you have to bring your car to Japan and have RE put them on the 7 for you, they won't ship the.(that sucks) that means 12K doors + 3K trip = to much to spend on doors, no matter how bitchi'n they look.

heh, my friend is a mechanical engineer, he designed some on cad and had a machine shop do most of the brackets/metal pieces, total project costs was less than $1500
he has them on his VR-4 spyder

I doubt the actual parts would run all that much (maybe $1500 - 2000 per door, if that).

I have a body shop near by and this guy does some kick *** work. I should be going down there today and I'll ask him how much $$$ it would cost to do the job. Both with and without paint. ice pilot I didn't mean I was going to buy a kit to convert the doors. I was stating that this company (decah.com or something like that)makes them for civics, integra's and I think a couple of other cars too... And it is a direct bolt on kit and it only takes a few hours to install plus they claim the kit "cost less than a set of new rims" I was just saying that maybe a someone else could make or has made a kit similar to this. The kit could be total crap I don't know but I do think it is possible to get if cheaper than 12k. That's overkill if you ask me. And the pic of the blue 7 above just has aftermarket fenders on it. It's not like they modified the fender to get the doors to work. So I would tend to believe that the doors would work with the stock one's. I don't know. Oh by the way... I'm not flaming or mad or anything. I just don't want anyone thinking I just went off or anything.

I don't think the orginal doors are used because they are ti heavy and it would require a lot of reinfiorcement. I think they use a set of PanSpeed CF doors, you can order them(not sure the price 1000-2000 a piece I think) and I believe a shop in Flordia will install them scissor fashion for about 3500-3000 a door. Sweet if you ask me and if I had the money I'd get doors like that.

That shop down in Florida, I'm not sure if they are still in business. Their website has been gone for over a year and I have not been able to locate any other contact info on them. However, to my knowledge, they had never actually done the conversion on an FD. They had only estimated what it would cost (which was around $3500 per door without the price of the CF doors).
