In-Dash 7" LCD for Stand alone
I heard there was someone here that had a Haltech wired into an in-dash LCD. I would like some ideas on this.
*What kind of PC do you use?
*Where would you mount it?
*Can you hook an amp to it and run iTunes?
*Touch-screen options?
thanks

Look into doing a carpc , I just finished one in my DD subaru and will definetly put one into my rex. Look around www.mp3car.com it basically explains all the basics and shows you how everything works. Then just get a laptop harness for the Haltech and run it the same way as you would off a laptop.

Navigation is done via touchscreen so its basically a fully functioning computer but the mouse is your finger and they are tiny. My carpc in the Subaru actually sits under my drivers seat. You cant beat it , Navigation , loads of mp3s and like 100gigs of music videos. Talk about never being bored while driving. That and totally peiced together it was about 700 bucks , thats the same price if not cheaper than any decent flip out dvd player without the hassle of having to burn dvds or any other media.

100ish
120 gig laptop 7200rpm hard drive
100ish
Touchscreen:
7" lilliput touchscreen lcd
200ish
double din bracket:
they make a specific one for the subaru but it seems to me it will work fine in anything double din, just might have to play with to make it work,
Powersupply:
m2 atx 160w dc-dc psu
http://cgi.ebay.com/M2-ATX-Car-PC-Ca...QQcmdZViewItem
80ish
Case:
Forgot which one I have , pick which ever mini-itx you like, they are all pretty small ,mine is basically the size of a medium sized cd booklet.
The basic breakdown:
Peice the computer together. Run a power wire from the battery to the powersupply, then a ground to anywhere you want to ground it.
The powersupply has whats called a shutdown controller. When a key is inserted into the ignition and turned past accesory it will boot the pc up automatically. When you pull the key out , it keeps power to the pc for about 40 seconds so it will have time to fully shut down. If you are running the pc with the engine off, it will auto turn it off when your battery is getting close to no-cranking range.
Plug in the vga and the usb for the screen. Install all the drivers.
Regular sound cable from soundcard to either headunit or directly to an amp via rca's.
Install a frontend , basically the carpc application. Roadrunner is basically the best one out. There are plenty of others, chose one to your liking, downloads, pics ,reviews are in the front end section of mp3car.com
Thats really basically it, its a full computer. Buy a gps reciever for 40 bucks and you can use the GPS function , same as any other navi software but its better since you can always update it, it speaks to you, its fully built into the front end so your music/videos will keep playing then it will pause them to inform you with directions, etc.
Pics tomorrow.

dude, thanks. this is exactly what i was looking for.
I am running a motec and would like to be able to monitor/tune without lugging around a laptop. cops get suspicious of that around here.
If you have a computer built into the car, might as well tie it in to the sound system and any other toys you can
