Different strokes I guess, I don't care for the weight of heavy duty audio equipment in my lightweight sports car. I would rather shave weight in order to improve performance.
My last FD I did the full Dynamat (actually a thicker product called Brownbread) layer over the entire interior. I guarantee that this setup is drastically quieter, and weights about 1/4 of the dynamat setup. I actually have sprayed the entire interior and the exterior with Spectrumn Firewall heat/sound deadening. That does the same thing as dynamat and weighs a lot less. That is a mass loading product that keeps the metal from resonating, but there is still a lot more reduction in sound by using closed cell foam. That is what is under the black carpet covering everything. It acts as a barrier for the sound waves/frequencies the mass loading products miss. I also filled my entire chassis with closed cell foam for increased rigidity, and better sound reduction. If you have ever picked up a camping mat, you know how little that stuff weighs.
Lastly over the tranny tunnel I have a 1/2" thick heat mat, that is quilted with foil on either side of a dense cloth material. It weighs a bit more than the closed cell foam, but blocks heat like a boss.

Thanks man, I have built this FD to maximize the qualities I would want in a max efforts street sportscar. The plastic panels also weigh quite a bit, I was surprised. The carpet also keeps echo down inside the car. There is a ton of room back there now, but I have a strut tower brace that is triangulated to the floor right in the middle. Sort of gets in the way of really large objects.

Looks like my link above to my build thread is borked, so here is the new one:
