Custom FC3S stitched leather interior

Im wondering about picking up a project involving stiched leather interior in my FC3S but i really cant elaborate the plan without asking a few elementary questions first + planning abit ahead, like:

Does anyone know how the dashboard/center-consoles/door panels is built up? Is it -plastic panels->foam->imitation leather- ?

From everything I have seen, the dash is foam with a vinyl covering with the radio surround made of plastic. The door panels are unknown to me. Right now, I am trying to decide how to cover my cracked, plastic radio surround with something that will look OK and not be too expensive. There was a write up in one of these entries on an FD that ended up looking pretty decent. I was going to try to do something like that.

Your best be would to be to go to a junkyard if you have one locally and pulling a dash and a door panel out of one. That way you can really get your hands in and experiment without worrying about destroying the pieces from your car. The dash is mainly foam, i want to say their is some plastic supports underneath it (and obviously metal structural supports in the car) but it has been so long since i messed with mine i can be sure.
