copper film on FD handle?
OK, so I took the passenger side door panel off to replace the black plastic piece in the middle that contains the handle. There is a cup that fits down into this piece that fits down and around the door lock and opening mechanism handles. That cup has a roughly oval cut-out on the side facing toward the interior of the car. Closing that off is a piece of rubber that fits outside the cup. Attached to that piece of rubber is rubber strip that is covered with copper foil (about 1 cm wide) that extends down to where the short screw goes that hold that cup in place. It looks like it is to ground something, but I'm not sure what. In the process of getting everything apart and back together I tore that rubber strip with copper film. I'm trying to figure out the best way to repair it, but I would really like to know what it's for first. I can guess, but does anyone know?

I think that's the anti-static pad. It's in the inside of the door pull cup, and you ground yourself with that pad to prevent getting shocked when you get out of the car.
