Check out my 20b themed sub box with a side of bling!
I've had the idea of building this box since 2003. Well since my engine project is nearly complete, I decided to go ahead and build the damn thing box during my down time. 1st I wanted something with a really small foot print and not too heavy. That meant MDF was out of the question. Good thing I had some extra 1/2" birch plywood. I decided to build a sealed enclosure. I don't like ported BOOM BOOM systems. Nice tight clean bass is what I'm after and is what was achieved!

Ok figured it out! Pics were too big! OOos! Now for the bling!
You will see later why I painted the woofers!
Now the 20b theme. Here I just took one of the avatars here on the forum, blew it up and modified it!
Here I cut out the pattern and used some white spray paint to paint the panel. Then I used a portable fine tooth jig saw to cut it out. I also had to use a razor blade to get the small corners. This was really a bitch to do and took a ton of patience.
This is the cut out panel!
Installed!
Now you don't see the Polk audio on the speakers! Now the 3 pics in the next post is why I cut the panel the way I did!

Bling! Bing!
How does it sound? Actually is sounds alot better than I imagined! Since my box in recessed slightly behind the interior panels, I get no vibrations and nice clean bass. Only thing left is to cover the rear portion of the box and upgrade the factory Bose head unit and speakers! That will be a few months off. As for now, it's back to the engine project. Let me know what you think?

Well sealed boxes can be designed smaller! I'm running three 8" DVC. Plus I did cut big holes in the inner two ribs section and filled with the whole box with cotton to slow down the sound waves. I just forgot to take pics of it before I sealed the whole thing up. At 1st it sounded like **** till I got it completely sealed. Now it's perfect. The bass I'm getting out of it is perfect. Nice clean bass at low & hi volume. There is also enough bass coming out of it that it can clearly be heard a couple hundred yards away when I crank the amp up! Believe me, it sounds WAY better than I expected!

Cool thx! I did expect comments both positive and negative since I asked for them. You however, I can always count on your negativity! In the short time you have been on this forum, that's how you have always been. NEGATIVE! Since your so critical let me ask you a question? How does modifying a removable panel considered ruining the whole interior?

Poorly cut rotor designs and blue neon lights - that's how you ruined your interior. I think most people over the age of 18, with a decent sense of taste, will agree.

Thx now this is good constructive criticism unlike the above. This is one of those things that I did that I didn't know how it was going to look. If your not trying something new and different, how are we ever going to get anywhere? I figured if I screwed it up too bad, I could easily just buy another used panel. Instead, I thought it looked good enough to show. So yea I could have easily done a better job cutting it. The rotor on the left was really bad but truthfully, it's behind the passenger seat and wont be seen by the passenger. Also anyone who sits in the car is in know way going to be able to completely analyse the cutting. Oh well, I like well enough to keep it.

That's your problem! You wanna assume that everyone thinks the way you do. You would be surprised of the complements I get in person from people my age and older. I guess since you think that only teenagers like colorful lights, then they must have an overwhelming ability to convince their parents to spent thousands of dollars on stuff like this?

And we all know that's not the case!
Designing something new and doing it from scratch is very hard thing to do sometimes (especially if your a die hard DIYer like me). Be my guess and give it try! You obviously didn't read the above when I told Gordon they were leds. You got something against people putting colorful lights in their rides? What you call neons, I call ambient lighting. I find ambient lighting to be very soothing and have had an obsession over it for a number of year. Understand this, I could care less if you think that's the crowd I'm trying please. Far from it! You can stereotype my project all you want with that teenage nonsense. I'm not scared to do something different or maybe unique.
I know there are a lot more people who may love the idea of something like this and may do something similar or completely different for themselves. That's all fine and dandy. It does present entirely a new avenue to those who may have never thought about doing something like this.
As for me, I choose to be an innovator and not a follower. What's your purpose? I've already put you in my Ultimate Hater Category. I find it really funny how you can negatively criticize a lot of projects on this forum but yet, are soo afraid to receive the criticism yourself! Don't worry I already have previous post of yours lined up to prove my point.
Do you not ever have anything positive to say? Never mind the fact that the box does save me a ton space and uses less room than even the factory bose set-up.

here's what it comes down to: you posted pics looking for feedback. my feedback was that you ruined your interior. what's the problem? lighten up man. you put blue leds behind sloppy stenciled cutouts and you think everyone and their mom is going to like it? sorry i can't offer any good feedback, but i don't see anything good about this "mod".

that's a swimming pool, not a car.
h yeah, because i've never designed anything before. nevermind my group by for the tails i designed. lol
yes, i did.
let me guess: you're hispanic? ha! i kid, i kidddd.
tacky blue LED lights in your car? wow. amazing innovation.
Your really blind if you think that's my innovation. Regardless of how it was implemented, what you see above is something that you have never seen before on an FD! That's the innovation!
i have nothing positive to say about anything that involves blue LED lights.
I'm sure you have a specific reason as to why you hate that color. Here I'll help you:

As I said b4 I have red also! Blue is really soothing to me. I'll let you in on something else I did with my set-up. I have my red leds hooked up to come on at 4,500 rpm's (the blues turn off). When all hell breaks loose in my engine compartment at that rpm, I wanted my interior to replicate the furry.

Well I guess pink would have done it for you? I was also looking for constructive criticism. If your gonna say something it tacky or ruined, don't be afraid to be able to elaborate. Your comments were far from that! muibubbles was kind enough to explain himself. Those kinds of things help all of us improve on whatever it is where trying to do. It's easy for a child to say "oh that looks stupid". It shouldn't be hard for a man to explain why he does like or dislikes something! If your going to post comments in my thread (positive or negative), then be prepared to explain yourself. That's why I've kept going back and forward with you about it.
