cargo bin speaker boxes!
Man I finally got my stareo system installed in my rx7 cargo bins and it sounds awesome! Here is how I did it.
1. 10" subs
2. dremel tool or any rotor tool to cut the bin covers.
3. pillow stuffing.
4. foam in a can.
5. gasket to go seal the bin doors from any vibration.
The boxes are great for 10" speakers I wouldn't go any bigger because I don't think the diameter will alow it. First I took the storage bins completely out and filled in all holes with foam in a can (the air tight kind). Then stuffed a bunch of pillow stuffing from my old box into the bins. After sealing the bins so that they would be air tight I started on the cargo bin covers. If you look at the covers to the bins you can actually see that there are two layers to the bin covers. First, I removed the bottom layer and threw it out because I didn't need it any more. Second, I cut a hole in the bin covers that would fit a 10" woofer. Third, I took the gasket and placed it on the bottom of the bin doors so that when it is closed it will be rattle free. After that was done I put the bins back in, screwed the subs in and turned on the radio and.....Damn!!! It sounds great! Be sure to fill in all the holes because at first I just put pillow stuffing and no foam in a can and it sounded like crap. The subs where not hitting at all. But as soon as I made the bins air tight those subs sound incredible!!! So I got alot of people on this forum that told me it could not be done because the bins where not made for boxes...yada, yada, yada. Well it does work and it sounds great so don't be afraid to try this you won't be disapointed.

I'll take some pics soon I think it looks totaly low profile and dosn't draw alot of attention to your setup at all. Of course I do have to amps in the back witch kinda draws attention but I have limo tint so its all good. Pics soon.

Have any pics of the bins without the subs in them? I want to see how you did the foam and such if its not too big of a trouble because i'm really interested in doing that to mine because I hate how my setup is now.

i would say also to open the bin and put a thick beed of silicone caulking around in then close and lock it, let it dry then use foam to seal it from the inside. you will also want to make the carpet to plastic air tight.
