Carbon fiber hatches....

Which company makes the best fitting cf hatch? I've seen a few of them out there, but some fit like crap.

Does this CF hatch really save any weight? Is it flimsy or rigid like th stock?

Carbon Vs Stock Hatch

(From RevRotor)

Stock rear hatch w/glass and stock R1 wing = 53lbs
Glass only= 19lbs
Carbon fiber hatch only (no lexan)=14lbs
Lexan only=12lbs

(From AMRX7)

Stock R1 wing weighs about 4lbs.

So not really much weight savings? 15lbs? I am assuming the quote for the stock hatch and glass doesn't include wiper and motor? I bet that is heavy. i have a touring model. I guess 15lbs is not bad. I could afford to lose 15lbs myself

I have the siebon CF trunk, which i recently test fit. I am more than happy with the fitment! I swear it fits better than my stock one, haha. I heard rumors that the CF trunk/FAL lexan is 44lbs lighter then a touring trunk with windshield wiper. I believe it, the stock metal/glass one is a TANK!

i would find it hard to believe 44 lbs. Have you done any weighing? The Seibon doesn't come with attachemnts for the windshield wiper anyway does it? I am thinking about getting the hatch but I don't know if I want to get rid of my wiper. Let me know if you find out any weight info.

just keep the stock hatch. more weight on the rear is better. if u want ur vehicle to get lighter, then change ur hood to cf hood.

Not exactly true, the stock hoods are VERY light already.

I put my battery in the rear, but its one of those 8lb ones, soo oh well, haha. Il weigh my stock hatch in a few hours on the Dr scale. Get an accurate reading as per my setup.

My OEM steel/glass hatch without wiper/motor = 44lbs

My CF trunk/FAL = 26lbs

18lbs saved, 22lbs technically if i had weighed my wiper and motor as well...

20 lbs is not bad I guess. I am not interested in going single and pushing 700 HP on 30 psi so every pound counts I guess. I read somewhere else here that going all CF parts saves about 120 lbs. Not bad. Doors, hood, trunk, fenders.

i have fenders, they arent all that much light then the steels. The OEM doors are actually very light as well. I will cage my car if i do decide on going with CF doors.

and once you add that cage in all your weight savings comes back
but the safety and chassis rigidity(sp?) helps

You could save a little more weight by getting a dry carbon hatch from J land (I believe FEED makes one), for about $3K plus shipping!

dont quote me on that, haha. i weighed it out, it was 22lbs and upon permanent installation it fit like **** in the passenger rear corner where it meets the taillight. it sticks up about 1/2 higher than it should,,, which pisses me off. il try to get pics tomorow.

heres some older shots. Now that i remember, it actually fit 100% amazing, it was when i put the rubber weather strip on the chassis only then did it stick up in the right rear corner like i mentioned. Basically, im going to use those stealthy hood pins in the rear under the wing. When i push down with minimal effort, it fits as it should, aka perfect!

has a decent gap between the chassis, but i think i can pull it forward a hair more.
