Can you buff/wet sand plastic?

I have looked at a couple FD's for sale and with some of them the rear spoiler and mirrors were faded/oxidized. Is this something that could be easily buffed out? I know you can buff and wet sand the body of the car, but I am not sure about these plastic parts. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can buff and wet sand plastic yes, But that might not fix the finish.

the spoiler and mirrors are painted just like the rest of the car. what applies to the body applies to those pieces as well.

True. The bumpers aren't metal either and they are buffed all the time. Its the paint finish thats buffed or sanded, not the actual material.

Those parts always seem to fade first. Mine are not as shiny as the car body. You'd probably want to remove them and repaint them. Not hard to do.

yes of course you can. you just need to use a very fine polish. sand with 600->1200->2000 and then use a buffing wheel with fine polish.

When polishing clear plastic use alcohol as the lubricant/coolant. Water doesn't cool well enough. Isopropyl or Methal hydrate are fine, elthyl alcohol is best because it is least toxic.
