Question Can I switch these tachs??

Hey...does anyone know if the tach from this instrument cluster can be switched out into our US spec instrument clusters....or do you have to replace the entire cluster? Also, IF you do replace the entire cluster, what do you do about the odometer? Is there a way to set it to your current mileage?

Thanks

As far as i know the calibration is done in the electronics of the gauge. So basically its just a simple switch of the gauge. Same harnees plug in the back, just with the calibration it reads it different.
The milage can be tampered with but this something that i dont know how to do as it is done more with the "illegal" type of guys.

If you want that tach its just a plug and play, but the whole tach not just the face....

I see what you're saying....it's not the face that'll change, but switching out the entire gauge. I know you said it's the same harness plug in the back. Keeping in mind this is coming from Japan, is that still true? It's not a US part...

Oh and I wasn't trying to mess w/ the odometer to get a false reading lol. I just don't want someone else's mileage (lower or higher) on my car. I know some cars have a tamper-proof seal on thing you can tamper w/, so you can verify whether it's ever been messed around w/ or not. But as long as it's doable, I don't care...cuz it's MY car...I know how many miles I have

Now I wonder if you can color in the redline....lol

I knew what you were getting at about the Odometer, wasnt saying the other, just i didnt know how to make it to your original reading.

Even with this comming from Japan it is the same plug in the back. For example my car is Canadain (same as yours), I put a JDM speedo in cause it loses the MPH and just keeps it clean with the KPH. Now the JDM speedo reads only to 180KPH where the Canadian reads too 280KPH. Everything still works the same, just the calibration only alows the speedo to read to the 180 now.
I had to take apart the whole cluster though and replace the full piece to the speedo. If you just do the face it wont read proper speed. the needle will still move the same but will be reading your old, say 60mph, but showing say 80mph cause the numbers are in different spots now.

Now my Q is who makes that and where can i get the speedo cause its in KPH for me!!! YUM

I actually did a little priject on this but it didn't work too well. I had an original us spec speedometer which i messed up the the face by trying to remove it(my own fault) so a friend of mine gave me a jspec which only read to 180k, so i stuck a sticker on it(kilometers) and de-soldered the back face of the gauge since the numbers from 0-180 are the same as in mph. Unfortunately I don't think it reads the actual speed right because i wanted to keep the odometer in mph. Connections and all that stuff is the same but I don't know if the signal coming from the tranny is the same. My friends did a little work on jspec kph to mph kit at www.racelogic.co.uk-which actually had an wire harness adaptor which might suite what you want later. And last I can't read out the name who the hell makes them? The only other j company that I know who makes them similar is TBO.

OMG what a freakin headache lol. That's EXACTLY why I wanted to keep my stock cluster, and just switch out the tach...it shouldn't be any diff, since rpms are rpms.
