Broken antenna power mast fixed cheap
I thought I would post this just in case anybody cares.
I bent my power antenna mast yesterday - hit it with a football.
Didn't even bother to go to the dealer since I guess they would probably want $250 or so for the whole deal.
I did go to Pep Boys to see if they had a direct replacement or could order one - no joy, ditto another auto parts store.
So, back to Pep Boys and bought all 7 different replacement masts in stock hoping one would fit. The cashier wanted to know why I was buying 7 and I told her I was not a very smart fella since I was driving an RX7, and that I would need to come back and buy a couple of dozen tires later that night to see it they fit too. Don't you just love teenage girls?
The Metra "OEM Power Antenna Replacement Mast" for a Toyota #CKPWRTY866 fit! I had to trim about a foot of the plastic gear "tail" to match the stock length with side cutters and then sharpened it a little with a utility blade so it would rethread. The tip is chrome - looks nice- and it does not fit exactly flush but hey, for
$14.99 I'll live with it. If you wanted to go to the trouble of getting inside where the motor and mount is I know it could be made to fit completely flush, maybe one of these days.......
I do need to take those other ones back for a refund....
