Anyone used this Duplicolor Paint Shop stuff?
I used some the other day and I must say I'm severely disappointed. The silver base coat came out blotchy and the clear coat dried flat!! It looks like crap. Anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it. I've used other products before to paint cars and this was an experiment. Usually even before wet sanding you can see depth and reflections in the paint. This crap just makes it look like flat paint.
I left a good descriptive complaint on their web site hoping for a refund, but my car still looks halfway like primer. The base coat was crappy too because i had to let it dry to wet sand it smooth before the clear was applied. It was unbelievably bumpy. I have never had that problem with the single stage metallics I've used.
On the directions it says no thinning is required. I know now that it is unless you like flat clear coat and no gloss...
Comments, suggestions? I know it's obvious I must either apply a new good quality clear coat or new single stage coat.

The Duplicolor product is acrylic lacquer. It will NOT hold up on a car exposed to the elements long term (Daily driver). Acid rain, bird droppings, etc., will destroy it rather quickly. The automotive industry stopped using lacquers like 25+ years ago.
Looks like the only option is to sand/strip it down to atleast the primer. Was the gun putting it on smooth? It sounds like a problem with the gun settings or tip size.

Yeah i am not happy with it. I didn't read what it was.. It is very expensive for what it is. It least with typical paints you thin it out and double the quantity. I used the clear on the parts pictured below.... Not good results.
Worst clear I have ever shot plus it needed to be filtered 3 times or it shot ***** into the paint.... (saw them floating in the can..)

I would say your gun was not set up well, or you didn't put enough on.... i put it on thick (3 coats) and then wetsanded/ buffed out the imperfections.... one thing I can say is it dries quick.... but overall crap.

It seems like the Duplicolor clearcoat (Acrylic stuff) that I've used is very sensitive to temperature and humidity when spraying it... If it's too cold out, then even the clear-coat will turn flat... Pretty lame.

i just did and man, my car came out textured and crappy. i just tell people its a black primer. waste of 100 bucks for me. i used some sikkens single stage black and its came out great the first time. so i know its not my painting ability. i painted my bumpers, fenders, hood and S5 side mouldings. tha painter at the honda dealership where i work said he thought the front of my car was dark brown.
