Antenna problems after deck install in Bose system.

Hi everyone.
I am in the process of installing an aftermarket stereo in a Touring with Bose.
All seems to have worked out, but there is one little detail and a couple of questions.
When I power the stereo on, the Antenna comes up regardless of the radio or the CD player being on.

I did a few searches and it appears that -unless the aftermarket stereo has two wires dedicated to the antenna's operations- if the blue-white cable is connected to the antenna cable on the harness, the antenna stays up all the time.
I need confirmation on this. If that's not the case, then what did I do wrong?

I have also read that somebody suggests that the reception with the antenna down is not bad at all, therefore it can be left unpowered. Is this true?

Finally, it appears from what I read, that the only way to have a functional antenna is to put a switch on the blue wire that goes to the antenna itself. Is this true?
If anybody did that, where did they install the switch?

Everything else works well, the Bose system (speakers) is very good in my opinion and the subs work like a charm.

Thank you for your interest/help,
Giovanni

my antenna hasn't gone up since i bought my car and when it had the stock deck the radio got good reception. I'd just not bother powering it. But, I have a question for you, my after market deck is not even hooked up to the antenna cuz I can't find a double male adapter, all application books say it doesn't need it, so nooone will sell me one, am I an iddiot or is there a male adapter in the car somewhere i don't know, if not where do i get the adapter.

Hi,
I just got back from a 3 weeks trip.
I don't have an answer for you, since I didn't get around that before I left.
I'll have a look around and I'll let you know.

I just hooked up a alpine deck and was able to get the antenna only to come up when the radio was on and come down when I switched to cd. Let me know if you dont have it working. Ill have to look at my wiring and I can let you know what I did.

does your deck have a blue and white wire?

if so that is the wire you need to run it to. It sends 12v to the antenna only when the radio is on.

you should def have that wire ...if it goes up and down at all that wire will make it work right.

if that wire isn't there hook it up to the solid blue wire and then it will go up and down when the deck is on or off.

Thank you boys.

To connect the antenna, you need a male to male connector. I just bought (cheaper) two extensions, cut off the male ends and made up a connector.

I have learned that the aftermarket deck must have two wires to power the antenna in a way that is identical to the stock. If (like my deck) you only have one wire, you either leave it down or you let it come up any time you power your stereo.
I have decided to leave it down. I feel that the antenna must be the ugliest piece in the car when it comes out of its location. Later on, if I really suffer with reception, I'll get either a switch or a fixed antenna or an antenna that goes somewhere else in the car.

Thank you all for the interest/help.

I installed an iPod adapter as well and I really doubt I'll be using that radio that much anymore...

Your reception will be fine with it down all the time. Mine also stays down and gets channels fine.
