Another Paint Qustion
I got a CYM and for one was wondeing the color code on that, 2 how much do you think Im looking to spend for a GOOD paintjob, as of right now my buddy (does it for a living) will pull all my little door/hail dings (previous owner) install 99 wing/ bumper and pull all the windows/ seals/ lights and all that good junk and paint it to a "flawless" finish for about $2000 or so... good deal? Also I'm going to ask him to add some extra clear for more "depth" how many coats of paint/ clear shouldI have him do for an optiom shine/ depth?
Thanks

j9 is the code, im assuming he will be charging you extra for the paint, its kind of pricey and is a tri-coat paint.
You cant just dump as much clear on as you want, normally 2-3 coats is all that todays clears require, they are high solids and more then what they say to do can actually cause more harm then good, it will chip more easy. Your friend will know how much clear to use, ask him what he will suggest.

Sound like you're getting a hell of a deal!
Personally, I think the best way to get the "depth" is to paint the car with about 3 coats of clear coat. Wait about a week, sand the clear back down until it's perfectly flat. Then shoot about 3 more coats of clear. Let that dry, sand the clear totally flat finish with 2000 or 3000 grit sand paper and then buff buff buff. That's how I did mine. I think it turned out really really good. When you do it this way, you will apply 6 coats of clear but will end up sanding about 2 coats off. That leaves you with 4 coats which doesn't chip too badly. You also don't end up the thick edges which you do get if you try to add all the clear at one time.
Hope that helps.

Good to know, this is exactly what my friend who painted my FD did. I get a lot of compliments on the paint job, so now I know why
