amp keeps shutting off at high bass

well i dont have my rx7 anymore and i dont know any honda forums that actually know stuff but heres the problem. when i turn the music up kinda loud and the bass hits really hard it shuts off then turns back on then shuts off and thus the cycle continues, but it works fine at low volume but who wants that, i just bought a new apline deck, 650wat 4 channel amp and a 12 inch bazooka sub, i had this exact setup in my rx7 and it worked fine accept i had a sony deck. anybody know what the problem could be? oh yeah i drive a del sol now

I am not 100% sure but it sounds like you alternator can't keep up with the demand of your amp when it is working hard. I would try adding a capacitor or upgrading your alternator.

1.)check your wiring
2.)have an extra battery to the system itself
3.)get one more amp to the setup so it could handle the power..

Does the amp shut off or go into a "protection" type mode. Either you don't have enough power to the amp, or the draw from the amp from the sub or subs is to great.

What size and brand power cable runs to the back of the car?

Exactly how is your ground attached?

There could be different reasons for the output of the amp sutting off.
1) Power problem. The questions above are related. Low voltage will cause the amp to shut off.
2) Speaker load problem. If your speakers are creating a load that the amp has trouble with, it may shut off.

I had the exact same prob. you're talking about...it was a poor install. They ran the wires to other existing wires, instead of running dedicated wires to the battery. Plus, they used the other wire's ground...so I had them re-do it, run dedicated power and ground lines, and everything was perfect.

The only diff in my situation was not only was the sub & amps turning off, but the headunit itself would turn on and off too. Oh, and I have a cap as well...

It's called "clipping". The amp will shut down when it's overdriven (beyong it's capacity, thus creating too much distortion). The amp/speaker combo is probably mis-matched.
