Aftermarket Alarm
#27
Me too -- twice!! -- that is why you buy a door lock from a right hand drive!! It is sitting on the floor right here waiting to go in the car. Bolts right up! Need to add a switch to the unit to detect lock/unlock to trigger the other door. The rods and cables will fit perfect. The trick is that the motor is real small and integrated into the lock itself. This is the exact reason I don't want passive arming to arm the car, because I want it to arm immediately when I push the button -- that is to activate the alarm and to lock the doors and soon to roll up windows.

I purchased the relay, so either tonight or tomorrow night I can try it out.
boomboom: If you know it works, would you share how? I have my design, but I haven't tried it yet. I suspect it will work. Also, I don't want to hear about passive arming as a solution either.

If you add an aftermarked actuator for the door lock, when you connect that to the stock cable it breaks that cable then you have to buy a new lock for $200. A left door lock from a right hand drive car has the actuator motor built into the lock and it is real small. It also won't break cables. Hook this motor up to your alarm and you have power door locks.

Update on aftermarket alarm and turbo timer:
NOTE: I will not guarentee that a running car and an armed alarm will not freak out your sensors!!
That said, it probably won't . . .
Ok lets define a few things:
Alarm (in my case Clifford AG4)
wire #1 -> coil side ignition wire
Turbo Timer (I have Greddy)
wire #1 -> red +12V
wire #2 -> green IGN #1
wire #3 -> blue IGN #2
wire #4 -> black ground
DO NOT USE THE 6-pin MAZDA specific wiring harness for this install. All wires from the turbo timer will be connect to the relay or ground.
Instructions:
1. Cut alarm wire #1. Alarm side is now #1a and the ignition side is now #1b.
2. Use a Bosch relay and wire pin 87a to #1a
3. Wire pin 30 to alarm wire #1b AND turbo timer #2.
4. Wire turbo timer #3 to pin 86.
5. Wire pin 85 on the relay to ground.
6. Connect turbo timer wire #4 to ground
7. Connect turbo timer wire #1 to a constant +12V
Now enjoy!

Did you get the left door lock from a right hand drive car? I am guessing you did . . . that said, it is very easy to upgrade the door lock and wiring. The cables and rods match up perfectly. The wiring will need to be controlled my an aftermarket alarm for the easy install. You will use the stock wiring for the switch that sends the signal to passenger door lock relay. There is easy access to the door lock relay behind the driver's side kick panel. I'll get the wiring color codes for you tonight. The door lock relay is green and says "door lock relay".
If you don't have an aftermarket alarm, contact cantdrivestraight for how to modify the door lock for the factory switches and wiring.

Do I sense another group buy coming on? I'm in if they're readily available, just to have one. I don't have any sort of alarm or auto door unlock right now, but i'd like to get that actuator. PM me if you get anything going, i'm not watching the thread.

Tom, I'm not doing a group buy on everything I want.

It was $115 shipped from the UK. It was used and came with no rods or cables, but that is ok because you can use the ones from your lock. (perfect match) Unless you have a keyless entry or alarm system this is useless!! Why else do you need a power door lock?

Ok, I'll try to straighten everything out:
Door lock
If you add an actuator (controlled by an alarm) to the stock door lock (actually connecting the actuator at the cable pull) then that actuator will break the cable end, because the actuator is too strong for it.
Left door lock from a right hand drive car
Now here is the fix for this problem. If you purchase a door lock from a right hand drive car, then the actuator is built into the lock mechanism, and therefore won't attach to your cable, so it won't break. The lock I purchase came with no cables or rods, but that was ok because the stock cables and rods match up perfectly to the new door lock. The wiring is different though. You must connect the two wires to an aftermarket keyless entry or alarm system.
Any questions? I hope I have clarified now, but if not then let me know. (I am so much better at explaining this crap in person!!)

I just wanted to call attention to the above message where I tell everyone how to wire in a turbo timer to an aftermarket alarm. Well I finished the install last night and I had to modify the circuit. I am edited the above instructions to reflect that change. If there are any questions then just PM me.

Boomboom, let me know if your interested in a fix for the broken cable deal. Spyfish has installed one of my door lock motors and is quite happy with it, it's also designed to work perfectly with the FD's. I have found a source in the UK. for these door lock motors, they are a limited supply and I've had to pay $100.00 plus shipping to make it simple I've uped shipping from $15.00 to $20.00 to cover any where in the US. I'm currently trying to get a price on new factory door lock motors for unlimited supply. You can't get the US dealers to get these parts as there not even in there parts list. The reason I went this route is because (GENERIC) door lock actuators will break the cables or cable tabs on our door lock assembley. Let me know if you want one so I can see if there ar any available. For any one who has broken the door handle I can get these too. The one that opens the door from the outside (our driverside only).

Hey guys, I am wondering if that whole actuator deal applys to 2nd gen too? I just bought a keyless entry kit, the guy told me I have to install the actuators. Is it nesscessary to have those to get the lock to work? I have a 90, which comes with the factory power lock, but do i still have to tear teh door apart to install keyless entry or is it just a simple 4 wire installation
