99spec front end

do you mean what does wtf mean or what was that guy saying about the 99 spec bumper. Either way, wtf means what the F**K and the dude is wondering if the liscence plate holder is removable or can you atleast get one without a plate holder.
To answer your question bigmack all the original 99 spec bumpers came with it but you can usually get a body shop to shave it for you to look normal. Also, I know there are a few companies that you can get a replica from that does not have the liscence plate holder. Like pettit racing for one.

yea sport compactcar mag has a project rx7
and they installed the 99 j spec front end
it comes with that nasty looking plate holder
they had a body shop shave it bondo it
and it looks hella tight but as stated
i think petite racing has a replica without it
check some back issues of sport compact car
and you will find that article

Some are better than others, but just about every responsible vendor (including Pettit whom I have great respect for because of their honesty) will tell you that OEM is the only true bolt on application that will last more than a couple of years and fit correctly from the start.
Same ol' same ol': you get what you pay for.
Me personally - I can't stand to see fit and finish on a car as unique as the FD3S compromised by crappy replica junk. What's the point? To look like every other half breed POS poseur rollin' down the street?

also if u go to the pettit site, you pay 550 for the bumper , 250 for the turn lamps, another few hundred for the 99spec lip, then 200 for paint, its not that much cheaper then the REAL 99 spec bumper which is urethane.

Your car will maintain better re-sale value if you stay with OEM parts - you'll pay through the nose upfront but when you sell the value is there.
I just spent a month looking at ALL the options for a new front end and will be installing a 99 J-spec Mazda with shaved license plate bracket.
I was pretty impressed with ING, but - they are not exactly inexpensive either! Good luck.

The 99 J spec without the plate holder is sweet but everyone I have seen ( Even the one from Sports Compact Car ) has sunk a bit were they filled it . I am not a expert at body work but I was told it has to do with the fiberglass resin filling a urathane bumper. The urathane expands and contracts with temparture changes , more so then the Glass filler . Its got to be pretty expensive to have it cut out filled and painted , enough so that the Pettit looks like the best option .I have seen a few photos of the "Fushion " front end but the 99 spec lip on the fiberglass replica from Pettit colud be the best combination for looks and function . I have a 99 lip on my stock front end and it has scraped once or twice , so I would be worried about the fushion since its fiberglass all the way to the bottom .Besides that if you ever hit anything hard it doesnt matter what it's made of. .One thing that could help you is some feed back with is the quality of the fiberglass and how it was made on the Pettit and the Fushion. The Fushion seems so cheap I wonder if it was made the cheaper way .

Hmmm, I was going to have a local body shop shave and fill it but now I am wondering if that's the way to go.
These guys are REALLY good since they have Bimmers, Porsches, etc. always parked in their lots with a 2 week waiting to list to get in.
