94 FD Stereo ?'s
I have been looking around this section for a while now and I am not really finding the answers I need.
I have a 94 FD with an aftermarket Pioneer head unit and the original BOSE speakers and amps. The years have taken its toll on them and its time for an upgrade. I plan on replacing the speakers in the doors, the dash, the BOSE tube, adding component speakers in the door and eventually replacing the head unit.
From what I have read the stock BOSE amps are putting out 50 watts (center amp 15 watts). Most after market head units are putting out at least that much per channel. So I will be running new wires to the door and center channel speakers. I don't see much reason to keep 15 year old amps that may burn out sooner than later in the loop.
The best way I see this working is to wire the the door and component speakers together on the front channel. Wire the center channel by itself on the rear channel. Get an after market amp and wire two 6.5 inch subs in the BOSE tube on the sub the channel.
Does this sound like a reasonable way to hook up a sound system in an FD?
How do you guys have your systems installed?

Im actually still currently finishing up my system as we speak. Im waiting on my custom made subwoofer enclosure, and Pioneer class D amplifier. I have a Pioneer head unit, and 4 new speakers (dont know what brand because the previous owner had them installed) My center speaker DOES work, but my speaker was blown and it was rattling so bad I had to remove it because it was annoying.
I would say, use your headunit to power your 4 component speakers, and use an external amplifier to power your subwoofer. Unless of course you want more power to your component speakers you could use an external amp for those, but things just get more complicating.

I am a professional stereo installer and would suggest using an amp to power your components. With a good amp, the sound quality is much better and you wont have to turn your volume up much on your radio. For your head unit go with Pioneer or Alpine. For your amp, go Alpine, Infinity or Soundstream 4 channel. If your willing to spend some money get Focal components, or if there out of your price range Infinity sound great. This set up will get you the ultimate sound quality for a good price. Also if you want nice bass without rattling your car apart go with one 10" or one 12" sub with a 350-500 watt amp. I would suggest Alpine or MTX for the cleanest bass without spending alot of money.

For a shallow Sub if you're looking for a small woofer that wont take up too much space, but you still want loud clean bass, I would suggest the Polk Audio MM840 8'' sub. According to these specs below, this is the second best 8'' sub money can buy, next to the JL Audio 8W7 of course.
(1 It's 4 11/16'' deep
(2 Vas (liters) 15.4
(3 Fs (Hz) 35
(4 Qts 0.6
(5 Xmax 20mm (This is a lot for an 8'' sub)
if you compare these specs to any other 8'' sub, you'll find out that this one blows the others out of the water. The best 8'' sub in my opinion, is the JL Audio 8W7 but thats not a shallow sub, so I won't go there.
But of course it all depends on what you're looking for
