3rd gen bumper on 2nd gen conversion
It seems to me that there are a few nice kits out there for the 2nd gen but none really catch me like this one:
The question is not, how hard will it be (really hard), but what to consider in taking that kind of project on. Just want to hear from someone who has done any crazy projects like this, artistic and creative rather than bolting on someone elses idea. I guess its not entirely creative if I'm looking at the picture though .
Front bumper: 3rd gen unmodified, fit to match wheel well. Aftermarket bumper? GTC maybe?
Hood: 3rd gen cut to fit width and lenth. Sexy rounded TII hood scoop.
Fenders: Either front 3/4 3rd gen and rear 1/4 2nd gen molded together OR all 2nd gen cut to match bumper and banged out to round shape of the bumper and to match the curve of the hood.
Headlights: Would the 3rd gen headlight covers on 2nd gen working assembly fit right? 2nd gen headlights too big?
Looks like custom skirts were made for the front bumper and the sides.
If it was an available kit it would probably run around $1800 (GTC bumper w/ lights $900, Custom fender pair $400, Hood $500).
Spit out some ideas as if you were planning on doing this!
Thanks!

to start (if you dont already know) you would need to find out the measurements of the front of both of those cars, making the front bumper shorter (2nd is skinnier than the 3rd) would be easier than making the bumper wider. Either way your gonna have to cut the bumper all up.
Or maybe it would be easier to cut the parts you like out and mold them into your current bumper. I would suggest going to some local bodyshops and picking their brains.
Sorry im no help

No, any info is appreciated. I didn't even think about bumper width.

2nd gen width: 66.5 inches
3rd gen width: 68.9 inches
This is getting interesting. That would also add to the hood choppin. I bet Jesse James would take this project on.

Bump... Someone out here must know who did this project.. I'd love to find out who and what the costs involved were... I'm interested in possibly doing this when I FINALLY get my rx-7 out of the shop and Tuned.

Rotary extreme did a version of the GTC bumper for the FC and they showed pics of the process and the FD bumper is definitely wider by several inches. I can't find it on their site anymore. They didn't do fenders or hood though and it looked a little funny.

i think it is right up the alley of most fc owners...how do i update my cars appearance? we all love our cars but who wouldnt love to modernize it? but i gotta say that if you have that bumber....why still have the stock pop up lights? or are those fog lights on the fd bumper? and since im expressing my opinion i gota say maybe there is about 1-1/2 inches of too much ground effects. im sure it would serve its purpose in a racing scenario...but that car would be perfect without the wing...and a little less plastic on the bottom...maybe
ok i just took a long hard look qagain and that car is badass!! still would use less wing!! maybe something a bit more tasteful?

I know that the fd's bumper is wider.. but does it really matter you are basically changing the whole front end, from hood to fenders etc etc. so it does widen out the profile of the car.. I still say it looks like that front bumper mated with a mariah motorsports wide body kit ( which I hate that front end on that kit ) The wing does look gaudy, I'd like to see maybe the mode five small wing on the back of that.... But man.. that hood with the intercooler whoa

That conversion looks badass! Someone with an FC should definitely do it, and maybe make a few extra kits/templates to offset all the custom costs.

I am well into My conversion. I am using the Rotary Extreme GTC nose with a Tri Point wide body conversion, and a large dual plane rear wing. This is a far simpler project than the one pictured above. If I were to hire someone to do it for me the labor would be over 5000.00 alone. I am doing it myself, and I will have over 150 hours in it when I am done. These projects are not for the meek.... Just lettin ya know what your in for. I can email pics, but have not been able to post them to the forum. Thanks, Carl Byck

and another thing that i've realized...
if you pay attention to the headlights, it is not even with the body... its really hard to see even if i blow up the pix!!!
it will look awesome without d pop up headlight tho... IMHO

I believe that's a Garage Daytona car. My friend was looking into doing this to his FC. He was saying he needed a front end, hood, and fenders from an FD. And a welder.

hey guys, k im not sure if i was the one to actually find this car or not. Back in the day i put up a shitload of pix and did massive searches through the japan community. This car is no doubt from and in Japan. The front bumper is by Bn Sports and im not sure if its the same as in the pic of the FD posted by sum1 else(wouldnt load for me). Along with this car i found a couple other FC-FD conversion though none look as good and smooth as this one. There have been a couple other threads on this topic before. But none the less, this is the only pic i have found of this particular car and have absolutely noe information about how or who did the conversion. Im gunna hunt for more info and ill let you guys know if i come up with anything.
