2 ohm 4 ohm single vc double vc. wtf? someone help me
Alright I am getting ready to finish my sound system, I hooked up my deck and my component speakers. Im ready to buy subwoofers and amps and Im a little bit confused. The subs I want are the aluminum eclipse 12" they are dual voic coil, and I can get them at 2 ohm or 4 ohm. Which one do i get as when I look at amps, it seems i get more rms power at 2 ohm? Not sure how all that works, what do I do about the amp does it run at 4ohm since its dual vc...grrr i dunno someone please straiten this out, thanks.

aight look man. I work at a stereo store so tell me what amp you have and exactly what subs you have. The lower the ohms the better the power flow, and the rating for the amp at where it is stable makes the difference. So find out if the amp is 4 ohm stable or 2 ohm stable or 1 ohm stable mono block class D. It all sounds complicated but in the end it really isnt. Tell me what amp you have and what subs and I will have an asnwer for you by the morning.

with a very few exceptions, running an amp at less than 4 ohms generally increases distortion. For example the distortion at 2 ohms is 10 times the distortion at 4 ohms, so given that you will need to decide if loud is as important as accurate.
But Dltreezan is also correct, you really need to know how the amp is being wired and what it is stable at.
For example if the amp can handle 4 ohms/channel and/or a 2 ohm mono, then you would want to use dual 2 ohm voice coils wired in series which produces a 4 ohm speaker load (which most dual or multi channel amps will see as a 2 ohm load when wired mono).

Alright sorry for the late response. I have not bought the subs nor amps. The subs I want a dual voice coils and come in 2 ohm or 4 ohm. So i need to know which ohm to buy, and I need a reccommeded amp, the subs are rated at 500rms each, I was looking at an audiobahn 2 channel amp that was 400x2 rms at 2 ohm. Just not sure what to buy..Thanks
