why buy e11v2 instead of e8?

Hello all. I am about to buy a new haltech from the haltech website, and before I do, I would like to ask the all mighty rx7club if I should upgrade to the e11v2, or just stick with the e8.

From what I can tell the e11v2 just has more inputs and outputs. Unless I am mistaken (I most likely am) I am not quite sure what else I would input or output in/out of my haltech, other than the normal things.

My setup will consist of:
13b NA 6 port turbo
BNR stage 2 hybrid running ~10 psi
no intercooler (meth/water injection)

haltech's
-wideband
-boost controller
-Basic sensor pack
* Air Temperature Sensor (ATS)
* Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS)
* Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
- 2 Bar Map Sensor

I know I am going to be missing something, so please correct me if I am wrong, but I would like to monitor and log, intake temps, a/f ratios, boost, coolant and oil temps, oil pressure, fuel pressure, ect. I would like to if possible, to control my e-fan and meth injection with the haltech, but if it's better to just use the 2d and 3d injection systems they have now days so be it.

Also I would like to have LEDs turn on depending on RPM. (example, 10 LEDS all in a line horizontally, staring with 3 green, 3 yellow, 3 red, and then a white at redline, or something to that effect.

Would it be better for me to get the e8, or e11v2 with all the things I would like to have controlled/logged by the EMS. I want to get e8 or e11v2 because I would like to have closed boost control and the higher resolution for tuning. ( I am not going to be tuning it myself).

If you can think of some other things I might need to control and/or log, please let me know.

Thanks

The E8 will do everything you want. I don't know of anyone who has used the ECU to control an aux injection pump like a lot of the systems do but it will control a constant pressure solenoid system similar to the FJO system.

Your shift light idea can be done but it would require a seperate output for each light stage. If you use direct fire ignition setup (four channel, four coil sequential ignition) you would be left with 6 aux output channels. If you do a distributor type setup (use stock 2nd gen coils and toggle) you would be left with 7 outputs. If that's enough then the E8 will work for you.

PM me if you'd like more information or a price quote.

I wish I had bought an E11 vice and E8. But at this point if I where you I would wait for the platinum ecu.

That's a real waste of outputs off the EMS, IMO.
There's a lot of other options that's available out there that requires just an RPM input (one wire), that can run independent of the EMS itself.

Hell, you can build a circuit for it yourself if you're good at electronics.

Ok, thank you. Is there an ETA on when this will be released? I'm not sure that I will be able to drop $2,300$ on an ECU though, that's just hard to swallow/justify.

What is the main reason you wish you would have went e11v2? What do you want to input/output that you can't now because you only have the e8?

It looks like it might be better for me to get a e6x, get my meth injection controlled by a meth injection controller, and maybe think about upgrading to the platinum version when it comes out. I am getting tunned by Steve Kan sometime in April, and if he might not have experience tuning the platinum by then. (My guess is he can tune any EMS though!) I would also think that I should be able to export my tune from the e6x to the new platinum without much difficulties.

Thanks guys for the info.

Reted - yeah, I will have to look into it. It does seem like something that should be pretty simple to do.

running out of inputs outputs. especially now that the haltech can log egt. I'd like too log 2 egt channels + road speed map switch (fuel and ign) ac, antilag and maybe flat shift. (thats 8)

For outputs I'm running the stock twins sequentially, like the stock computer does (5), plus some of the smog controls (3), fans(1), AI etc(1), BAC etc

One thing to consider, the E11/E8 harness would plug into the platinum ecu, possible moving a couple of the wires around the plug, and adding a couple for the additional inputs/outputs.

I got this from one of the haltech technicians. So may only need to to buy the bare ecu.

As of right now, the Platinum ECU is only available as an application specific system, the universal version isnt scheduled for a while as of yet.

The E11v2 is a very capable system, and has 7 inputs that could monitor things like oil press/temp, as well as be able to do EGT corrections with the new software.

The deal with your shift lights sounds like a little over kill, but, you could also shoot for an E8 "Street Pack" which is the combination of a Haltech E8 and the MXL Street Dash, this will give you the versatility you're probably looking for, and be able to add
sensors to monitor, and be connected to the haltech via CAN too. This "Street Pack" also comes with the Haltech wideband too".

Look into it.

I was told to expect the universal platinum by middle of this year, and that it was a short jump from vehicle specific to universal.

For the cost of something like the AIM dash, you could set up a carputer with a double din screen and run halwin full time.

there are probably other applications, with USB hardware that could full time model the can out into a windows environment and provide gauge skins.

it is an aim mxl strada dash (like the haltech wideband is an innovative unit) its a hell of allot more than just a multi gauge pack, with some pretty impressive features that could be used on an all out race car.

It costs about 1100 give or take, I think the haltech branded version is slightly more expensive.

Nah, its probably a little less, specially if you buy the "street pack", "track pack" or "pro pack", which is a haltech kit with either an E8 or an E11v2, MXL strada, pista or pro dash, and haltech wideband in a single package, pretty good deal if you ask me.

I don't disagree that its a nice package, but unless your doing some pretty serious road racing, its big time overkill.

I was just going by the price I found with a really quick google search. But it does seem like they are pretty close in price.

I offer the Strada at $950. The price and content go up for the Pista and Pro models. IMO $950 is a pretty good deal for what you get when you start pricing out quality gauge packages. And like Claudio said, if you're buying in a package deal the price gets a little better.

Dudes, this is a LOT cheaper than a MoTeC ADL backlight at $5k!

That's one of the main reasons why everyone been using the AIM products not forgetting they support just about every major brand of ecu out there presently.

That's why I'm surprised people are complaining about the price...
I've spent over $1k easily on stupid gauge already! :P

One thing to consider, either FC or FD, for 1K you can have a double din touch screen carputer, and just display the gauges in halwin, or using the innovative racing application, or something else. And all the time with no laptop have halwin at your fingertips for dataloging and making map changes, not to mention, unlimited MP3's 802.11, a simple USB accessory that makes it into a nav system, TV, ETC.

I havn't worked out all the details, but I am going to be doing with a liliput 7 inch VGA touch screen and an intel based mac mini (running windows XP and OS X dual boot).

There are a couple solutions for getting analog inputs in for stuff like oil/fuel pressure, oil temp etc.

One is just connecting the sensors to the haltech, and configuring them to display in halwin, another is one of several available innovative boxes, and running the innovative software (which has a few different skins to display gauges, and some nice features for data logging). Thats all Ive found so far, but I'm looking for a better way, perhaps something that can take the CAN or serial outputs from the haltech and display in on screen, along with other analog channels at the same time.

This is one of the reasons why I haven't gone with an "all-in-one" display unit...
I can place my gauge where I want them.
I don't want a display screen in the middle of the dash - it takes too much time to glance down and read.
I know my gauge placement even with peripheral vision.
Larger gauges (boost and EGT) are more important.
Smaller gauges (voltage) are less important.
Position is dictated also by importance - boost and EGT near instrument cluster and highest; fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp top of center console; voltage and AFR / knock furthest away.

So, as nice as these displays are, I still prefer analog gauges with large sweeps.
The brain just reacts to them faster versus trying to read text on a display screen.

I might try one of those AIM units once they get a little more established though...

Well, to tell you the truth it is really a lot easier to just glance at one spot, than it is to look like a cameleon trying to look at all the gauges.

Hello, I am back again. Thanks for the help up top there, but Slo got me thinking. Also a few other people have recommended that I look at the innovate motorsports products. I have been told that their datalogging systems are far better than the e11v2 or e8, and was wondering if anybody has used any of their products.

Right now I am VERY confused on what really they provide. From what I understand now, the innovate products ONLY do data logging. They have an EGT amplifier, and such, but I'm not sure how the whole daisy chaining thing goes.

If anybody has one of their kits, or they could further explain what I would use they systems for, (the DL-32, tc-4 and such) in conjunction with the haltech, that would be awesome.

As far as I can see now, I don't think I can replace all the e8, or e11v2s features with the innovate system, and just get the e6x. Sorry if I seem completely clueless, but I am.

Thanks in advance for any help!

one of their products, has outputs: http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/dl_32.php

Doubt if they are PWM outs, probably just digital outs.

I have an LM1 that I use to tune my bikes, great standalone wideband controller datalogger. especially considering it came out about 4 years ago.

I have an LC1 that is installed in my car, this is the unit haltech re badges as the haltech wideband controller.

I have never had issues with the units, everything is quality, sofwtare is good. For the rotary application I wish their stuff could use the NTK sensor, but since heat sinking the bosch and moving it back further, I havn't had problems. The cost difference between sensors makes it economical to just move the sensor back.

the performance difference is that the NTK can't take as much heat as the bosch sensor, but its harder to come by and 4 times more expensive last I checked.

NTK sensor is also much faster reacting in my experience, but I've never had a bosch failure with it mounted 36" from the exhaust ports (basically in the downpipe where it passes the rear of the bell housing)

Thanks all. Sooo, I think I have my electronics figured out. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Here is the plan, please tell me if I have something wrong:

Haltech -
will control my:
fuel
ignition
boost
e-fan
anti-lag ? I guess when I drag race the few times, I don't want to kill the BNR stage 2 hehe
flat shift

will log my:
intake temp
water temp
oil temp
oil pressure
fuel pressure
tps
map
voltage
knock ?

innovate motorsports-
will log my:
EGT
Wideband

cooling mist 3d dual nozzel -
will control my:
meth/water injection : based off intake temp, egt, RPM, and boost. (maybe EGT I'm not sure if it can do that..)

So from what it looks like, that is basically all what I need to do everything correctly. I "COULD" monitor and log the stuff the haltech is with the innovate things, (and just downgrade to a e6x) but than I would loose boost control and such correct? Is this about what you all recommend or am I missing something?

Thanks again!
