Does anyone on here own an E6K?

If so could you enable the "Ignition" trim function (under Main or Ignition Setup Menu, no module necassary) and then post whether your timing, as seen on your engine data page, retards by 8 degrees or advanced by 7 degrees?

Without the trim module the signal wire will read 0V. I would like to know which end of the trim range this corresponds to (-8 or +7 degrees).

Thanks,
Justin

Justin, i have an X installation right now, tomorrow morning i will tell you what the voltage is doing, so you can keep working. Sorry for the delays.

if you set the trim function to trim the ignition then it will adjust the ignition in relation to the trim adjusting ****/resistor. if one is not installed it should not make any changes.

Thanks. Let me know what you find out.

I thought about this and came to the conclusion that it must go to one extreme or the other (-8 or +7) when no module is installed. The trim connector has +5V, GND and a signal wire. The module is nothing more than a resistor like you mentioned. Therefore the signal must just read a percentage of the 5V power that is fed in (0-5V). If the manual states that the range is from -8 to +7 degrees (and I assume that the transition between the two ends is smooth) then one of these extremes must fall on the 0V signal reading (which is present when no module is hooked up).

Make sense?

Findings

When the trim isnt connected, it looks like the input is conditioned to behave neutral, meaning, if you enable it, it will just sit at zero %. Now, when you connect it and the trim is in the middle position, its aroudn 2.5v, if you raise the voltage to 5v it advances timing +12.5% (7*), if you lower the voltage to zero it retards the timing -12.5% (8*).

Remember this is a 12Kohm pot. Hope this helps, if you need more info let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks alot for taking the time to help. This is exactly what I was looking for.

hmmm. I wonder how the Haltech can tell that the trim pot is installed? Any ideas?

I am thinking that the pot is just one of two resistors making up a voltage divider. I will have to do some more thinking on how to simulate this pot in the circuit.

Opps!! i made a booboo, its a 10K pot, not 12. :S Sorry...

Like i said, my guess is that when there is nothing connected to the trim connector the input is conditioned so it stays at a specific value (ie. opened connector, no resistance messured). When you connect the trim, the resistance is anywhere from 0-10Kohms.

You know this post would be better attended in the Haltech board, that way some of the Haltech gurus there can offer you real technical feedback on this.

If you've never been there, and are into this hardcore tweaking, i suggest you do visit it. http://p210.ezboard.com/bhaltechdiscussionforum

Thanks. I posted something there, hopefully someone will have some input.
