Vulcan Autoworx Sleepy Eye Kit
#177
quick update it is highly likely that i will be changing my plan for the motor arms. instead of steel rod ends, with a nylon stock connecting the ends, i will use aluminum to connect the ends. this will be stronger, nicer in appearance and easier to adjust.

Here is an update, and a poll (so to speak).
the new (same design, just modified for fitment), is less sleepy than the previous model. but more OEM in style, in the sense that the lower and upper "lips" have a more OEM style.
in the original design the bottom edge of the high beam module was barely even with the edge of the bumper directly in front of it. and the shroud directly in front of that point had a bit of an upward slope to it. the stock shroud, in this location, has a reasonable down ward slope. so the new design adopts the look of the stock lower lip.
this in turn makes the shroud taller which comes with another benefit, the install is easier. with the original design it was required to remove the ball from the small arm that attaches to the motor, then drill a new hole in the aforementioned arm closer to the motor mounting point. the new design requires only the removal of the ball and opening the hole to 1/4" (the hole is very close to 1/4" stock, minimal material is removed).
so the question is which option is preferred?
A) New less-sleepy design that offers a more OEM appearance, easier install.
B) Original Sleepier design about an inch lower.

I'm all about that "Sleepy Eye Look" as well.
...& since i'll never ever find a Veilside kit...
One vote for B
I don't mind a bit of drilling and fabrication, as long as proper install instructions will be provided.

Not even a question, B the sleepy style. Once upon time I had a similar setup for my old FC. It did wonders to modernize the look, just never had shrouds. The producer at the time made modified motor arms that you would replace so that you could get the correct height. If I wanted stock height I would've just bought the sake bomb light instead, the primary reason for my interest in this setup is for a lower sleeker looking setup.

The old version being "sleepy" is the reason I am interested in this kit, instead of just going for a Knightsport style...
I'd actually prefer it if you'd make it EVEN SLEEPIER than the original version, by cutting off more from the top of the shroud, but about an inch atleast.

Dan... the lights you sent to James (toyzzzz) 16 months ago look incredible and should be your offering. Just kick it across the goal line and be done with it! I've seen the lights in person and can vouch for how nice they are. Tweak the shrouds a little to get them where you want, but then sell the kit!!! If you continue to take EVERYONE's suggestions to heart you will NEVER finish. The lights you sold toyzzzz capture the best of what you originally intended to offer (basically the David Hayes light kit). Just DO it!!!! This is not a slam by any means! I'm a champion of you and your kit. Just want to see this one get to completion before all of your buyers disappear!

I agree. We have been waiting long enough and I honestly don't know that it would look appreciably better by losing any more on top. It might actually make for weird lines. I think go with what we have in the above picture and tell us how much and where to send our money.

I think the issue here for Dan is consistency with the way the shrouds fit. On some cars there was not an issue and on others, the fitment was not up to his standard. So, he's attempting to resolve this by using a modified stock shroud, which gives an OEM fit particularly on the top lip of the shrouds. On the OEM shroud, the top lip has an edge that fits snugly into the light covers. On the sleepy eye shrouds, this doesn't exist and can cause gapping problems.
My set of shrouds that started all of this fit my car fine, but that took some heating up of the shrouds with a heat gun to bend and massage them into place. Dan was trying to fix this, which the taller design does, but in doing that, the height was raised. I agree that to now try to take the raised height ones with the better top lip and modify those to a more sleepy look would be quite a bit of work.
So, I'd also recommend to Dan to go with the sleepy look ones and call it a day. The buyer will have to know it is possible some adjustments will need to be made and if that is okay with everyone, then let's get this GB rolling
