new sleek kit

so i broke the lens plug out of the mold today. we didnt pour enough aluminum in it and so it didnt turn out quite right, due to not filling the entire mold. the good news is that it still had the stock curve that i want to achieve.
i cast the passenger side today too, and this time added more aluminum.

i got a chance to knock down some high spots on the lens plug. i didnt get as much done on it as i would have liked, the air compressor i was using wasnt up to the challenge. i did get some more fine tuning done on the shrouds as well, the air compressor did well there. i will be glassing after work tonight so tomorrow, or tuesday i can finish up the shroud plug. i will send it out this week to get the molds made. i want to have the lens plugs smoothed out and ready to polish by friday, so i can clean them up on saturday.

i got another layer of resin/glass filled in some low spots and got them closer to each other. im very close, i will wok on it more tomorrow. once they are identical i will put a layer of glass on for strength and finish them smooth. then its time to ship.

did more shaping on the shroud plugs tonight. i got them to sit just below the body lines (so the lens will match the body lines while over the shroud), i also i trimmed the edges back a bit so the lens will fit. tomorrow i will do some more fine shaping/filling. im on track to ship it out on monday.

so i have changed my mind as to the order im going to do things. i am going to work on the lens plugs this weekend once they are finished i will make a faux lens out of fiberglass. once the faux lenses are finished i will ship the plugs to my vacuum former and get those going. i will use the faux lenses to get the shroud fitment right. because of the difference in time to get the lenses and shrouds made sending the lens plugs off first means i will get them back about the same time.

Yeah I dont think that looks anything like the 3000gt. It looks great though! Cant wait to see finished product as well as how well they work illumination wise.

Im really looking forward to seeing the outcome of this - I need to go down the sleek route and am looking for an excuse to avoid the Re-A vacuum in my bank account. lol
