new sleek kit
hey i have previously been posting in one of my other threads and am moving over here.
i am currently designing a sleek kit that as i said in the other thread has great lighting, is fair priced, and i can look at every day and still love it. my current design take cues from the C6 corvette lights, the scoot sleek kit (not available to the public) and my own little twists.
i have a rough sketch (i mean rough) of what i want it to look like. it is a shot as if you were level with the light.
if i have enough positive feedback i will start a real design process (as opposed to my current paint drawing) and hope to have them available no later than early next year (i hope to have them much sooner however still saving and planning, but dont want to be late).
i need honest feedback, if negative please justify, if positive what do you like? i am open to suggestions as well.

i plan on using 90mm hellas for the high beam and a projector from another vehicle (not sure which yet) it will be like 2.5-3in lens. i also plan on r8 style leds on the base of the light. also i will probably offer halos at an additional charge. there will be optional strobes as well in the upper part, if strobes are not ordered they will be turn signals.

the problem your going to run into and i dont know how your metal working skills are is going to be making the mounting brackets to have the lights actualy mount to. Im almost finished with my custom light project and its a fun good experience just some parts can be frustrating espicaly if you do no know how to shap or form a part of the project.

One thing to keep in mind is that it must be priced right. That is key, long gone are the days where people stood in line to plop $1K+ for a sought out item. Not even taking into consideration the economy, todays owners are broke *** late teens to early 20's kid that can barely afford his FD.
EVO R made a headlight kit that was rather pleasing to the eye and priced around $600. It looks good in pics but from what I hear many fit like ****, it has cheap brackets and the lighting is crap. From what I've seen initially they sold well, until those issues surfaced.
My light kit is made by pre-auto. The kit sold for about $700 it had great lighting (I like the looks), but the bracket system, and clear covers was utter garbage. Basically the end result seemed like a walmart special and IMO killed his product and tarnished his name. I ended up spending close to $800 bucks in getting it sturdy to be acceptable and got a much thicker clear cover. Now I'm extremely happy, but not after spending a pretty penny.
U seem like acool guy and Im not telling you how much to price something but if you see that the kit is really costing you a lot of money tomanufature. You may want to rethink things. There is areason why many people don't roll around sporting genuine RE amemiya sleeks, JUN, knighsport lights... Price man.
Anyway good luck! so far I'm digging your design.

point taken. price is exactly y i do not own a sleek kit. and if fitment is an issue i will not sell them. my moral compass would not allow me to pass off garbage as treasure. if i cant keep them at or very close to the evo r kit price i wont do it, shear fact i want to help the fd community (obviously a little monetary gain) and if my product isnt affordable i wont do it. thanx a ton for your input. and hope fully i will have a prototype in the next 2 months (i need a hood (i fucked up my stock 1)) for an example. i will mock up a very rough prototype in the next week or so as an example.

I have the Evo R kit, it came with my car. It does fit horribly, no matter how hard I try, I can't get both lights to have nice clearance with the outside fender and the hood, its always good on one side or the other.
I have modified them, and added bigger projectors from an early 90's lexus for the high beams. I need another HID box for each though, as the H3 bulbs don't get enough power to make a beam through the big projector. The low beams are the H3 bulbs with the HID box, and the small projectors that came with the kit.
Once I get the light output right, I'm thinking about getting a fiberglass hood, that way I can shave it a little and make the gaps look right. Make sure you don't have this problem when you do yours.

Yeah, I can take some pics for you tonight. And I'll also show the massive hack job that I did to get the bigger projectors to fit haha.
Do you know much about the actual lighting part? I'd love to speak to someone about it, because I cannot see at night. The low beam HIDs are fine, but the high beams are horrible, they don't have an HID box. This is the HID version of the kit, and the high beams don't come with an HID box. thats why i put bigger projectors in, but could only fit the same H3 bulb, so the lighting is still bad. Does an H3 bulb need an HID box to work properly? I just have no experience with this stuff so I don't want to go buy HID boxes for the high beams and then have it not work. I already spent $50 on new H3 bulbs and did not notice any change.

hid bulbs will not work without a ballast. xenon needs 1000x the voltage of a normal bulb.
so if your bulb doesnt have a ballast, it is not hid
get a 55w kit from vvme.com
they are the best, insane lightoutput
