Thank you everyone! I'm so glad the support is here for cool stuff like this.
As mentioned in the first post - this isn't a "should we do it?" thread. These are ALREADY in production. Samples are here and have been sent out to third parties for cutting, testing, etc. The positive reviews by the testers pushed us to move forward with production which takes 60 days. We're half way through production and have an ETA of 30 days. Once these are IN HAND I will add them to the site and post links where you can go and purchase them. Would a dealer be able to cut a titanium one from VIN? I wouldn't want to dupe from my worn out old key. Would also be cool if you could cut with an efini symbol, I don't roll with the flying m anywhere else.
The passenger side key cylinder has the key code stamped on it, I think it's 5 digits. They can use that code to make a "factory cut" key that isn't a copy of a worn out key. I would probably even have the locksmith cut a "sample" key on a cheap key blank with that code, test it out, then have the locksmith cut the Garage Alpha blank. I wouldn't go to the dealer to get the key cut, or, for that matter, Lowe's or Home Depot. Go to a locksmith - they have the best equipment and they do just keys all day every day. Especially if you need the titanium key cut, that's 1 shot and if they screw it up you're out some good money. I would also get your key code and get a key cut from that instead of a copy of a worn key - go ahead and do it right. Dale |

I did it this weekend out of curiosity and for a future writeup. You just have to pop the interior trim panel that's behind the outer door handle, remove the 2 10mm nuts, lean the door handle out and disconnect the 2 rods, then remove the lock cylinder. My 5-digit code was stamped on the side of the cylinder itself.

Glad that helped! Yep, that is the main key code for the car, a good locksmith should be able to use that to cut you a new key.

Good news! The titanium keys are here (yaaaay!)... but the Spirit-R don't ship until Monday (boooo!). The titanium keys need some final finishing (sandblasting) so it's not that bad of a hold up. That said, I'll probably wait until everything is in hand to start launching these out. But I can say, I had one cut and it fit / works perfectly. I'm really stoked with how it turned out and I'm sure you'll be happy as well! https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tup.gif A quick note on cutting. Even if everything goes perfectly with your locksmith, you may still need to deburr or even file down left over metal. Take your time and do it right. At this point, the titanium that needs to be cleaned up should be thin enough to do things by hand. Wire wheels, small files and patience are your friend. My key came out of the key cutter with some 'folded' titanium that didn't quite release - a little filing to clean everything up made it perfect. If you are on the fence, NOW is the time to order.
