#30
Having just recieved my set, i can tell you guys that the quality of work on this kit is insane. Its above and beyond anything OEM i have ever seen from Mazda or any other aftermarket part for that matter. Well worth the price!
Im just happy i mananged to get a set of Recaros before this was released and reviewed, because the price on "rail-less" Roadster RS Ltd. seats are going up now xD

The development that went into this was a solid two years. Sourcing every component and making sure they all played nice was just as large of a task as anything. If we're talking about securing a seat to the car - you just can't cut any corners.
We're obviously VERY proud of the end result.
From here - we're debating what to do. We have a couple options.
Now that the tilt mechanism is locked in (uh, no pun intended), we will continue to develop the base into a solution for side mounts. The question is WHICH side mounts? The discussion has always been around Recaro SPG/Pole Positions - which I do like. But lately we've been seeing some interesting seats floating around lately.
Option 1 - Recaro Pole Position/SPG - 'Ol Reliable. We can source these from Recaro distribution here in the US. For the Pole Position - black velour is standard, red velour is an upgrade and black suede / leather or all black leather is another option. For the SPG - black velour is standard.
POLE POSITION
SPG
Prices, per seat, are in this ballpark (we can probably save a few bucks per sets depending on sales):
Pole Position - Black Velour - $1145.00
Pole Position - Red Velour - $1345.00
Pole Position - Black Suede/Leather - $1545.00
Pole Position - Black Leather - $1545.00
SPG - Black Velour - $1045.00
Option 2 - Tillet B5 - Tillett really made a name for themselves by diving into the Lotus Elise/Exige scene. Likes the FD3S, the cockpit of the Lotus only allows for narrow seats, thus the Tilletts are a perfect match for the FD3S. The B5 is availalble in black GRP or a GRP/Carbon Fiber hybrid. Meaning, the seat itself is GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) with a layer of carbon laid over for aesthetics. Additionally, the seat pads can be ordered in various colors, stitching, etc.
Tillet B5 GRP - $949.00
Tillet B5 GRP/Carbon - $1089.00
Option 3 - Kevmannz Carbon Seats - The newest kids on the block as far as custom seats go. Kevmannz has been making his carbon seats for the past few years with a few sets sneaking into FD3Ss along the way. Full carbon, with optional weaves (Plain, Twill, Forged & Honeycomb) along with custom colored padding.
Kevmannz Carbon Seats - $900.00
Now, keep in mind, each seat price listed is PER SEAT. So a set of Recaro Pole Positions in red would be $2690, plus an additional $1100 for the bases, bringing the grand total to $3800 before shipping. Whereas the Kevmannz would come in at $2900 complete with bases before shipping.
Sooooo, the truth is - since they are all side mount - we should be able to adapt the bases to fit them. But, I wanted to get the temperature on the group as far as which seats everyone wants and if there's interest in pursuing Tillett or Kevmannz to get bulk discounts.

As I said, in truth - any side mount should be able to work, it'll come down to use sourcing one and making the drill position for the side mount. Conceivably, every side mount could be the same and we just change the drill pattern seat to seat.
The trick is trying to get the group to agree or at least section off, into camps and see if we can further reduce the price by buying a number of seats in bulk.
