therotorrooter Both BAD and GOOD seller
I bought a "rebuilt" S4 turbo from him a while back that he stated as being rebuilt but did not know the condition of it as he never ran it.
Now I knew it would be "iffy" on the rebuilt turbo, but that would have been ok if it was just that.
But did not mention or show a picture of the wastegate arm being welded shut or that the vacuum niple on the cold side was missing.
Now the missing vacuum nipple is my fault for not noticing in the picture, but the welded wastegate kind of ticked me off.
There were no pictures posted of the wastegate arm side at all, but I would never of thought that it would be welded shut!
I sent a message to him maybe a week ago explaining what I found, and that I was a little upset about it. He never even sent a message apologizing for the wastegate being welded shut....
It may be partly my fault, since I am new to turbo's but it was a bit of a rip off since i paid $160 shipped for a useless turbo.
Just an apology would have been better than nothing.

He did a great job with keeping in contact and sending it to me though, so I have to give him that.
Ask for pictures of the whole part all the way around it!

Just grind the weld off so the arm moves again?
Not that you should have to, but it's better than nothing.
Also, you could simply swap the 'rebuilt" cartridge into your old turbine housing that is not welded, and be good to go. The cartridge/wheels are the part that gets rebuilt and are important, the housings just bolt onto that.

Yeah, im going to try that today, monday.
Im going to either grind it so it works or use the arm off of my old exhaust housing.
Im basically going to use the exhaust and internal's of this turbo with the cold side of my original and use the rebuild kit that I already have from Gpop.
My original turbo exhaust side flange has 2 good size cracks, and this one doesnt.
Cause from what ive read cracks on the flange on the hot side means more cracks inside, or can lead to more cracks. And I want this turbo to last for at least a year or close to it until I can get a BNR one.
Thanks for the advice though

Just pull off your old turbine housing and look for cracks on the curved wall adjacent to the wheel fins. IF there are any small ones grind them down and go...if they are big, then try to use another one as they will hurt efficiency slightly and also can expand under heat and cause damage to the wheel fins. However, if the wheel that has been in use with the housing is undamaged, you can assume that the crack will not contact the new wheel, either.

I really appreciate the helpful info, if my old housing turns out to be pretty good i'll do what you mentioned above and put it together.
Kind of old/off topic but, I apologize for a thread a while back that I had made when I first joined. It was about an ssautochrome turbo and wastegate that I was trying to use, and was told it was too big for my goals so I tried selling them and it turned into a mess.

cracking on the turbo inlet divider is normal, and not anything to worry about. You want to look at the surface inside the housing once it is off.
Did this thread in question have something to do with me or something?

Yeah, it was about a month back.
I thought I may have offended you, so I was apologizing for it.
Just thought you may have remembered it, maybe not.
Sorry for it being so random, I still have that POS ssautochrome turbo sitting here next to me and I remembered that thread when I glanced at it.
I'll stop hijacking my own thread now
