Prepping engine for sitting engine?

Looking for the best and safest way to prep an engine that has sat for 2 years?

I've heard of the ATF trick, but not sure if that is the best way to do it.

pour about 2 ounces of 2 stroke oil into each leading plug hole and reinsert the plugs and crank the engine over by hand for about 5 revolutions.

this is about all you can do for a rotary engine that has been sitting, after that just cross your fingers that the coolant seals can handle the inactivity and corrosion.
