I bought there race applicated seals for my motor...Go to my thread under my build...There seals are something similar to the carbon apex seals...The only difference is that these seals can hold boost, and a **** load of boost at that...thats why i bought them...And on top of that when the motor goes or blows he/she don't have to worry about losing a housing or two...just take the motor apart and rebuild it...But there seals have been proven time and time again...

At the advice of Dave over at KDR, I used these seals back in 2000-2001 and blew around 7 motors. I'm not sure if they've changed things since then, but I will never EVER use Hurley apex seals again. They were very soft and broke way way too easily.

Over here in sunny England there are really only two (That I've heard of and that have been recommended) engine builders. One is Jimmys rx7 and the other is Hurley. I blew my engine and Hurleys was closer so I went there. The guys a dedicated rotor man, I had the 3mm race seals that there company make and mines been awesome. They use them in ther 650bhp drag car.. Know he does a tonne of business and the first time i've seen bad press is on this page.. Id recommend him in anycase..

We had some in an E Prod 13B with pretty good luck. That's a big street port FYI. Spun it to 9K all the time. We also had there corner seals but didn't like them. They seemed to have too much spring pressure(three little springs) and wore the plates in their arc pretty bad.

I'm sure they work great in non-turbo cars, but the seals he was selling years ago were very soft and intolerant of even a hint of detonation. Scottwmas, perhaps find out if he's changed the seals over the years? I don't want to slander the guy or his product, but based on my past experience I can't and don't recommend his seals for guys with boosted rotaries. I literally broke like 30 of the 2mm variety for various reasons, it was a steep learning curve, that's for damn sure. I've since been running mazda oem seals and have been on the same set for the last 5 years.....

Tri-Point Engineering in Canoga Park, CA built my engine using Hurley 3mm ceramic race seals. Granted, I've only put about 3,000 miles on my motor since the rebuild, but everything is great so far. I trust their recommendation: They told me they don't use anything in customers' cars that hasn't proven itself over a couple of racing seasons.

However the Race seals are very good and I can confirm that we have around 10-12 400+ rwhp Single turbos running them over here. Might not sound like much but we only have a handfull of FD's otr compared to you guys...

They make a good seal,we used them in alot of engines before we changed to "RA seals" We had a guy decide to tune his wolf-3d himself. Thought he could do it better. He had is so lean and mis tuned that he had a pre-detionation. when we pulled the engine apart (yes he killed it). the rotor had a dent in it the size of a nickel. the "RA classic seals" were fine and we reused them. This was on a 550bhp 95 rx7 @ 22 psi boost.

oh boy. Stay away from Hurley seals. Their 3mm stuff is fine, but even they chatter the rotor housings. I used to build a lot of engines when I started my business. I talked to emen hurley and he recommended the 2mm "race seals" and his indestructable racing side seals and corner seals. I bought 8 sets of everything for 8 engines. I did all the engines in 4-5 weeks. Well it turned out that the 2mm seals just spit out the exhaust ports at 13 psi of boost. As I broke down the engines ALL of the irons were worn slap out because the side seals where made of a tougher material than the coated irons. Everything was done properly, side seal gaps were well within spec and deburred, corner seals were in properly. I covered all of the engines under warranty, paid for shipping to and from the customer, lapped all the irons, reassembled all the engines with new mazda OE parts. I covered everything under warranty b/c the responsiblity was mine to build them a good engine. I called and emailed Emen Hurley and he would not do anything for me. Matter a fact, he didn't answer any messages, emails or phone calls. He is not someone I would ever deal with again. He should have been a responsible business man, but he is not.
