Fd Problems.. a List...
well im a little new to the rotory world.. i have quite a bit of mechanical knowledge when it comes to pistons but now im tryin my luck in the world of rotory..
i just bought a 93 5speed with a trust catback and it has a few problems..
one when its warming up i get alot of blue/white smoke like more then i should im thinking... second when i hit the secondary turbo im greeted with a good gust of blue smoke.... hmm idle is real irradic its about 50% of the time it will actually return to the under1k idle.. othertimes it either pulses or idles at like 1200-1500. hmm
power delivery feels real good even with the smoking secondary.
when i have my headlights on i have a bad hesitation pretty often when cruising through town, doesnt happen on freeway.
also i pulled the turbo inlet lines and the turbo nearest to the front has a nice gooey oil trail all the way up the line. so im thinking...
front turbo is secondary? and if so the oil seal is leaking and throwin oil up the hose.. blue smoke on startup is oil in the exhaust caused by the oil leak in the turbo constantly seaping until all oilpressure is releaved, irratic idle, not sure, ive had cooling problems cause it on piston driven engines but havent had this thing even close to hot yet so kinda stumped on that one.. hesitation im thinking is either a short in the lights or alternator/battery isnt putting out enough power at low rpm cruising to get a good fire, it is spitting fuel for sure.
hmm well sorry for the novel any info would be greatly appreciated, im in love with my car even knowing its problems and want to fix them jsut lookin for a little advice and info to see if im on the right track.
also i was told somting of a rebuild, seals and bearings for the stock turbos' at $150 each, anyone got a link or know of a better deal or if the company is decent quality.
again sorry for the length
and thx for any info.

From: FL-->NJ/NYC again!
front turbo is the primary one. It sounds like you may need new turbos. don't bother rebuilding them, most of them end up failing prematurely and a rebuilt one most definitely won't last as long as new. If you want new stock-type turbos, look into the efini twins over at www.rx7.com
hope this helps

agreed new turbos are the way to go.
it would be important as well to see how much vacuum you are pulling at vacuum to diagnose your problem. You may have a vacuum leak somewhere causing eradic idle and then well, some people have bad motors that can't hold vacuum anyone too many variables.
One thing is for sure that if you are smoking blue well you are burning oil probably from your second turbo!
I can't decifer much of what you are writing but essentially the first turbo transmits its boost to the second turbo. Hence the term transition, the first turbo spools then its boost is release to help start the second turbo, so thats why 10-8-10 boost patterns occur..... hope I am helping a little.
Best advice get a boost gauge or PFC and tell us vacuum at idle, boost, boost patern and how much oil your taking would help!
Good luck,
Alex

thx
hey thx, ill get the boost pattern up in a few days, far as oil consumption its kinda off the chart right now,
if im a little hard on it its about 2quarts for every 350 miles, i havent been really really hard on it yet, just crusin around and staying off the secondary i see very little consumption of oil.
thx again, kinda lookin for the cheaper fix for this right now, effini's are kinda spendy but would looooooove to have em. we'll see.
