FD cooling temps , and what did I miss ?

to many mods to list , but running non seq , with a PFC . My temps seem to spike way to fast in traffic . I was out yesterday and at a standing light the coolant went from 85c to 102 c . I checked my coolant level and its fine . I did find a small leak on the hose under the filler neck, but its not the problem.

Heres my guess, I did install a Fluidyne rad , and have a Greedy pulley kit . My guess could it be my thermostat is going bad ? or is it the pulley kit ? I can see it working the water pump less, but I am seeing way to many funky readings .The car does cool down but not till its way to close to "melting point " I guess this is kind of a mute point since it all getting tossed soon, but WTF .

Make sure you have good airflow to the rad and FMIC. You could check the thermostat in boiling water and if it doesn't pass that test try a new genuine thermo from Mazda. The pullies will underdrive the pump a little but you should still try to keep the temps down.

FMIC ... yummy Greddy 3r R Spec is going in a few months . I have a PFS SMIC and his " hot air " induction. Its a shitty set up, major heat sink with his IC . Its small and thick...perfect for heat soaking . Air flow is a issue with his intake and the rad is almost sitting flat . Thanks for the info!! I will have the thermo checked . Should I go with one that openes up at a lower temp ?

Yah, you could try a lower temp one since it won't hurt anything in the summer. Also the higher intake temps might lend to the higher coolant temps a tad since the engine is already running hot. Granted once it gets in the engine it heats up anyway but every little bit helps. Just think like the air thinks and see if there are easy paths around the radiator. If there are, the air will go that way as well.

No airflow when you're standing still at a light. the pulley kit will underdrive your water pump. so expect to see higher temps with your setup. Why would you want to underdrive your water pump on a street car for a few extra horses?? Sorry thinking outloud there..

When I move my rad for my single kit "air flow " will be top on the list .

88GT: Its not really a street car, but I do drive it when I can . My concerns are really about the track, if I cant hold temps at a stop light , jezz whats going to happen when I am stuck in line at the drag strip.

Got it.. Drag Strip is a different scenario. You can always pop your hood while in the drag line.

perhaps you have air in your coolant system. Did you burp the system correctly after going through the rad install?

air in the system will cause the temp to spike at random times.
