20B or LS6

the lsx series motors are the better choice if your looking for cheap and reliable. If your looking to be seen as a "god" by some of the forum members, then the 20b is the better choice.
I personally love the idea of the 20b in the car, but i would much rather go the route of an LSX series motor. With the v8 comes reliablility, more power potential, less expensive, and pretty impressive fuel economy (a lot or ls1 rx7s are getting 30 - 32 mpg on the highway and around 24-25 in the city).

LS6 would be less work, less money than a 20B swap, but the 20B will be more civilized and more rewarding. it will be harder to start with though. I'd go 20B, actually I plan on going 20B. If I wanted a V8, I'd buy my Mustang back.(no offence to the V87 owners, its just silly. really silly.)

either way your looking at a lot of work and alot of money. The Best bang for the buck is the LS motors now with the LS7 in production its very tempting 505hp out of the box thats nothing to take as a joke, plus you could then drive it every day.
The 20B is much like the holy grail of the rotary worl. It is very expensive and very sought after. It is an impressive engine and people have really made some nice numbers with them. They are more maintance and they dont last nearly as long.
But when it comes down to it its all what you want out of your car and what you want to do to it. Good luck with your dicision and on the project.

and you think the turbo 13b is reilable? I know the 3rd gens motor is about as reliable as earth quake prediction. Dont get me wrong when the thing runs right there a monster too, but the LS engines are really solid. My friend has a 99 TA with about 100k on it and it still pulls hard, I have gone though 3 engines in the same time, we got our cars at the same time.
So if you want to be unique and special the rotary is the way to go, but you want reliable power the LS engines are were its at.

The 20B run n/a will be extremely reliable. Once you throw boost into the equation things change of course. I like the idea of a 20B running moderate boost, as then you are looking at a relatively reliable car......you can get 300 rwhp out of a 13B-REW FD before you start pushing the envelope, likewise you can get 450 rwhp reliably out a boost 20B.

WOW!! I just talked to GM performance about the LS7, they say its under rated at 505hp most of them are over 525hp stock just good air in and good exhaust out. but the torque #s are over 450-500 T, I wonder what that feels like.and its DRY sumped, they have adaptors for the 6spd. tran.also. but I asked about the money, he said he would get back to me. !!! that may scare me.

been on the Camaro site about this LS6-LS7, LS6 from junk yard will be much cheaper and ther aint no LS7s in the junkyard. but most feel that the Mazda FD would be light enough to go with automatic 4L60E, easy to drive and you dont miss shifts, and peformance between the 2 wouldnt matter that much anyway, youd be out of control most of the time , fairly cheap money for the two units.!!!! now you talk about things that come up here, one guy said go with the new GM ECOTEC 4cyl. turbo, he says they are making 600hp no problem and reliable. now Im really confused. going to think over the options

I'd vote 20b, and that's the route I'm going. I have to agree with some previous sentiments about the rarity of the 20b. Most people that come across the car will have no idea what it is, and I like that.
The V8 is VERY tempting though for the simplicity, mileage reasons. But I do believe that a hi HP 20b (600+ RWHP)can be made reliably... but it will not be inexpensive.

Agreed about going LS1 instead of LS6. I'm starting my LSx fc with the LS1 short block and then just upgrading as I build it. The difference between the LS1 and LS6 is all in the air flow. Upgrade the heads cam and manifolds and the "LSx" puts outs 410-450 rwhp. And with all the products out you can pick up those upgrades for under $2500. check out www.LS1tech.com tons of info there.
