1,000hp out of a 13b...Has it been done??
I was in the supra forum today looking at all the MKIV's and have you guys noticed how much hp some of these dudes make??? I mean its insane. Its so common to see a 600, 800, 1200hp supra. Are these numbers real?? Are they accurate??
Im not saying that we NEED this much hp im just wondering why we never see ppl here or in the 3rd gen forum talking hp number's that get into the quad digits. Im mostly just wondering what it takes to make that kind of power out of our 13b's.
Even with all that insane power supras dont seem all that fast do they now???

I think I read on here somewhere that somebody managed to squeeze something like... 800 hp out of a 13B. But even if that's true, I'm sure it was very short lived.
It seems like the horsepower limit for 13B's that don't need to be rebuilt every 30k miles or less is around 400 hp to the rear wheels... give or take a few ponies depending on a billion or so different variables.

The only reason those Supras dont seem that fast, is because with the 6-speed and 600+HP, its nearly impossible to get traction in the first couple gears. Trust me.....they are faster than hell, just not 1/4mile cars. Talk to the guys with built autos that are running 9s..
As for the power question, Ive never heard of a 13b (whether it be 13bt, 13b-rew, 13b-re) breaking 1000HP. I dont think they are capable of much over 700HP personally.

So, do we suck compared to Supras?
When I had my WRX I got it to a track day first thing after the break in was over. At one point I was on the track with a 550 hp Supra that was running on a modified suspension and r-compound tires. My WRX was *stock*, down to the crappy factory tires. I waved the Supra by because I honestly didn't think I had a chance in Hell of matching his speed. But the Supra wasn't going anywhere. It would rocket down the straight aways, but as soon as we got to the turns where I could lay the power down springing out of turns it was all over with. The guy was actually holding me back. That's the thing, Supras get so much power that the car can't use it effectively.
There is such a thing as too much power... unless you're the 1/4 mile type. So no, we do not suck compared to Supras. It's easier to get an FC into the 11's than it is to get a Supra down there, IMO.

Personally, I prefer cars that emphasis low speed handling. They're more fun to drive around town. That's why I like my Spec-V. I've never had a car so much fun to plow around town in, not even my RX-7's could compare.
But I have plans to change that. I'll never see 400 hp in the Sentra like I will my next FC.

Nah, I bought this car to be my daily beater. I want it to stay nice and quiet and reliable, so no modifications. I also like to keep the weekend stallion separate from the daily mule. Right now my fun vehicle is the RC51. As soon as that and the Daytona sell I'll be in the market for a Turbo II.

To tell the truth I don't like RICE but the movei was entertaining. Part two was a riot. Me and wankel7 watched it and made fun of the first half but settled into it for the last half. They are movies and I don't HATE them I hate the people that idolize what was shown in them as PERFORMANCE.

Supras seem to have a major fault. Getting power to the ground. Sure they look great on a dyno, but when it comes down to getting down the track, the supra just can't cut it. Back half one of those things and you'll see some serious *hit. Elsewise, leave your $50,000 vehicle at home...wouldn't want it to get dirty.

The key is knowing how to drive the car I suppose. But yeah... there does seem to be an overabundance of 12 second Supras that push over 600 hp on the dyno.

Yes Supras can get 1000+ HP easily. The 1JZ engine has got to be one of the most over engineered and bombproof engine blocks of all time. Not only are people inexpensively modding them up to 500HP, but they still retain their daily driveability and 100K+ mile life expectancy. In my opinion one of the nicest sports cars of all time.
However, the Supra is a different car than the RX, specifically the FC. Mykl is dead on, the Supra is more of a GT style car. Still handles well, but handles differently than the FC. The FC is about 500-600 lbs. lighter and is WAY more nimble.
A WRX would definitely spank a Supra on the twisties, but in the straights...LOOK OUT!

This has turned rather loungish (and I'm surprised there have been this many posts before Icemark moved/closed it) Let's think before we speak - I have a hard time believing that a MKIV Supra is slower than a WRX at anything. On a road course with drivers who are not esspecially talented the car is maybe 50% of the picture. As for 'the twisties,' this is a car that was/is competitive with FDs. Magazines got .98Gs in it.
The MKIV Supra took the kitchen sink approach. Despite it's weight, it hung and beat the best of them.
1.3L is an excuse. To compare it to a piston engine double the displacement. It breaths like a 2.6L. Some credit can be given to the fact that it is more efficent in size/weight, but comparing it to a 1.3L piston engine is as silly now as it was back in the 70s when the rotary was labeled a gas guzzler and compared to 4-cyl engines.
