Need Help, Problems / 60-2 FD Trigger wheel

Hello,

I ordered your 60-2 trigger kit for my FD. A little back ground, we are running a Motec M84 ECU, big single, etc. On the stock factory trigger we made 810 RWHP at 23psi (dnyojet) 703 RWHP at 23psi (Mustang Dyno) on E85 only with a full bridge 2 rotor. The car idles at 2000RPM and spins to 10,500 RPM's. We decided since we wanted to shoot for 1000 RWHP to upgrade the stock trigger to your 60-2 kit.

After setting up the kit per the supplied settings in the motec and adjusting them as necessary since they are just a starting point we are having a few problems and I was wondering if I could get your help to figure these out. I was also wondering if anyone can give me a call back to go over some settings/filtering numbers in the Motec to try and eliminate any areas we may be over looking.

The main issue we are having is that the sync signal is being lost in the RPM range of 8000 - 8300 RPMs. No matter what we do, it will not let us get past that RPM range. When it loses the signal it shuts off the car, it mimics a complete fuel cut. We did verify it was not a fuel or ignition box (using an M&W)/coil issue by removing the 60-2 kit and re-installing the factory trigger with factory sensors. Then we tested it with the factory kit/sensors and no issues going back up to 10,500 RPM and making 800+RWHP.

When we installed the 60-2 kit we wired it following the Motec standard for shielding, etc., and hooked it up with a DTM connector to ensure there are no issues with shielding/connections.. For spacing we used 70 thousandths from the sensor to the trigger wheel.

Any help or guidance you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to mention that we switched over to your primary and secondary fuel rails. We previously ran the KG parts rails and I have to say your rails are amazing. I no longer have to worry about have a fuel leak like I heard about with so many other cars running the KG parts rails.

Thank you in advanced for your help,

Alex Lopez

I was wondering if you know of other customers running a Motec M84 with this trigger wheel and what they have experienced.

The ECU has to br able to interpolate data above 8200 Htz.

The frequency with a 60 tooth wheel is going to match the RPM.

Sorry to bump an old thread. But my car has been at the shop as my tuner is having the same problem. It also verified good coils/and fueling yet mimics a cut just ask you explained. Did you ever find a solution to your problem? Also settings in motec were the ones provided from the FRENCH website. Any thing I should tell the tuner to try?

You need to capture what your voltage your mag pickups are doing at a given RPM. Because they're a sine wave and increase with rpm the mag signal table needs to be built.

The table will kind of look like a 'knee' because if I recall correctly all motecs will clamp voltage at 9v ac even if your pickup puts out more when you're winging the engine out (Porsche pickups can put out something stupid like 100k V ac). Because they're a sine wave and increase with rpm the mag signal table needs to be built.

You can also switch over to a hall effect sensor, they'll put out a given square wave no matter the rpm/speed of the trigger wheel over the sensor.

You can email me at david.a.guy@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Alex, you are not the first to have the signal problems with 60-2 wheel, i'm not going to get in to details to why you and your tuner will never get it figured out, but before you blow your engine, ditch the 60 wheel.

When I inquired about the FD 60-2 trigger kit for an AEM series 2 application (last September) I was told there was no support at the time so I went with the 36-1 hall kit. After receiving the kit I called and emailed about proper settings to run on my ems since I did not get any with the kit. The excel document I received did not include any AEM settings either.

Full Function, I just pm'd ya. Please get back to me
